In "Murder at the Mousetrap," the first Bunburry book, fudge-making and quaffing real ale in the local pub are matched by an undercurrent of passion, jealousy, hatred and murder - laced with a welcome dose of humour. Alfie McAlister has retreated from London to the peace and quiet of the country to recover from a personal tragedy. But an accidental death - which may have been no accident - reveals that the heart of England is far from the tranquil backwater he imagined.

Publisher's Summary
Sherlock Holmes is dead.
Days after Holmes and his arch-enemy Moriarty fall to their doom at the Reichenbach Falls, Pinkerton agent Frederick Chase arrives in Europe from New York. The death of Moriarty has created a poisonous vacuum which has been swiftly filled by a fiendish new criminal mastermind who has risen to take his place.
Ably assisted by Inspector Athelney Jones of Scotland Yard, a devoted student of Holmes' methods of investigation and deduction, Frederick Chase must forge a path through the darkest corners of the capital to shine light on this shadowy figure, a man much feared but seldom seen, a man determined to engulf London in a tide of murder and menace.
Author of the global best seller The House of Silk, Anthony Horowitz once more breathes life into the world created by Arthur Conan Doyle. With pitch-perfect characterisation and breath-taking pace, Horowitz weaves a relentlessly thrilling tale which teases and delights at every turn. The game is afoot....
Read by Julian Rhind-Tutt. This audio edition also includes The Three Monarchs, a short story narrated by Derek Jacobi.

A well worth it read particularly for homes fans
If you're a friend of Sherlock Holmes and this is certainly well worth three certainly one of the betterbooks about homes since the original. Sticking faithfully to the style of the Holmesian works I'm happy to say I was one of the people that guestsurprise twist to the novel but it was very well written

A well written addition to the Holmes omnibus
Horowitz writes very well and I enjoyed both the character development and the integration with the body of Holmes "lore". I though the twist at the end a little clumsy, but not out of keeping with Horowitz's playful approach to his material.
I would read another Holmesian novel by Anthony Horowitz.
