Story
Detective Lauren Pengelly has only been part of the Penzance police force for less than two years, but that’s enough time to know that the sleepy Cornish town doesn’t see many murders. So, when the bones of a woman with a hole in her skull are discovered behind a derelict cottage, she immediately assumes the worst. Rallying her team, Lauren is flooded with a strange sense of relief when the bones turn out to be almost twenty years old, not a recent victim. But it quickly turns to dread when she receives her second heart-stopping call of the day–a little girl, Isla, has been kidnapped.

Publisher's Summary
Featuring his famous literary Detective Atticus Pund and Susan Ryeland, hero of the worldwide best seller Magpie Murders, a brilliantly brain-teasing literary thriller by Anthony Horowitz. The follow-up to Magpie Murders.
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend, Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted - but is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told she's beginning to miss her old life in London.
And then a couple - the Trehearnes - come to stay, and the story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married is such a strange and mysterious one that Susan finds herself increasingly fascinated by it. And when the Trehearnes tell her that their daughter is now missing, Susan knows that she must return to London and find out what really happened....

What a story
Solving a murder by reading a crime story. Quite unexpected. I enjoyed this book as I have others in the series. By the time the second story was done, I had forgotten the characters in the main story. Intriguing who done it.

Fabulous, but listen to Magpie Murders first
I love the way Horowitz does a book in a book. This time, with Moonflower Murders, I did get quite lost when the story returned to the main book, but I enjoyed everything else so much it didn't matter. I listened to Manville (the female narrator) on speed 1.15 to give it a bit more kick, but put it back to 1.00 for Corduner. I love the Greek/German private investigator and just want more and more and more!

Both Narrators are exceptional. The story is solid
Lesley and Allan are superb narrators... bringing life and distinction to the characters. Always a wonderful experience to be led by masterful performers of the written text.
I listened to both books in the Magpie Murders series back to back. Moonflower has the usual Horowitz dexterity, however, it was a tad indulgent at the end. Anthony Horowitz wanted to show us his workings, to demonstrate his smarts, however, it became a tad obvious. I picked the guilty parties early on so the final denouement was not a surprise.
It was a major time commitment, so was not fully sated at the end.

Classic Horowitz. Weaves and interweaves stories, plots and devious characters with wit and intelligence. Excellent performances. More please.

Good read
I enjoyed this book. It has well developed characters and some interesting plot turns. At first I found the reading of a book within a book a bit confusing but once I got my head around that it was good.
