Story
Lou is reeling from a triple whammy of shocks that have left her loveless, jobless and almost homeless. Staying for a night with an old friend in the Cotswold village of Foxwell, she lends a helping hand to a spectacularly ungrateful older man with a reputation in the village for being a 'character'. When Edgar makes a suggestion that would solve two out of three of Lou's problems in one fell swoop, it's hard to resist. Especially as the return to the village of the very attractive Remy—not that he's even noticed Lou!—makes it an unusually appealing place to live.

As she gears up for her sister’s destination wedding in Hawaii, the countdown is on for Gigi to find a date. Just someone to prove to her friends and family that she's ok, and to stop the pitying looks would be great! Of course she can’t wait to be bridesmaid for her sister, but it’s just not ideal that the best man is also her ex… especially when he is bringing his hot new reality star girlfriend! But when Gigi arrives at the hotel in Hawaii to find there has been a mix-up with her room, and she’s been upgraded to a suite, things start to look up.

Story
The friendship starts with a letter...from aspiring writer Sarah to blunt but witty journalist Helen, complaining about Helen's most recent book review. And there begins a correspondence that blossoms into a friendship which spans over two decades. As the years pass, the women exchange details of loves lost and found, of family joys and upheavals. Sarah's letters filled with thoughts on her outwardly perfect marriage and her aching desire for children, and Helen's on the struggle of raising her young daughter alone.

Thirty-one-year-old matchmaker Lola James had it all – until she broke her leg at a wedding and discovered that her so-called ‘best friend’ was suddenly too busy to call, her flat had far too many steps, and her boyfriend replaced her quicker than you can say ‘crutches’. And so she’s back at her parents’ B&B, sleeping in the living room (she can’t get upstairs) and having her hair washed by her mum (she can’t get in the shower). Freshly single and with a lot of time on her hands, Lola is only too pleased to run into gorgeous Dr Will. And then there’s Dean.

I enjoyed it
Despite some less than positive reviews, I actually enjoyed this book. Clem was definitely a bit over the top and annoying in the opening scene, but I warmed to her and found the story quite entertaining.
Interesting sub plots kept the story alive as well.
All tied up nicely at the end with a happy ending, so what's not to love!
Always a fan of Imogen Church's talented narration.

A good enough romance

a disappointment
my least favourite Jill mansell book and nearly abandoned it several times. I found the narrator really over the top and will avoid books of hers in future.

Characters are so annoying *spoilers*
I am a fan of Jill Mansell, especially her more recent offerings, however this book started with Clem being an annoying travel companion, and ended with her annoying, mean, bitchy step-sister Belle bring redeemed for all her shitty behaviour by coming out as lesbian. It was an uncomfortable listen.
Jill should have focused on Marina rather than her being a character for a sub plot. She was easily the most likeable character.
