Story
The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: Circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life. When Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big-city attorney, comes to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to defend Katie, two cultures collide - and for the first time in her high-profile career, Ellie faces a system of justice very different from her own.

A Survivor
- By Trudy on 03-01-2024
Publisher's Summary
For more than a decade, Jenna Metcalf has never stopped thinking about her mother, Alice, who mysteriously disappeared in the wake of a tragic accident.
Refusing to believe she was abandoned, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice’s old journals.
A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research among the animals she loved, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts.
Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest: Serenity Jones, a psychic who rose to fame finding missing persons, only to later doubt her gifts, and Virgil Stanhope, the jaded private detective who’d originally investigated Alice’s case along with the strange, possibly linked death of one of her colleagues.
As the three work together to uncover what happened to Alice, they realise that in asking hard questions, they’ll have to face even harder answers. As Jenna’s memories dovetail with the events in her mother’s journals, the story races to a mesmerising finish. A deeply moving, gripping, and intelligent page-turner, Leaving Time is Jodi Picoult at the height of her powers.

great story twist. one of the narrators is very monotone and at the start hard to listen to, but a few chapters in as you get to know the character the voice really suits her.

The magic of elephants
A very interesting story, which includes fascinating information about elephant behaviour.
The story is gripping, with an unusual twist at the end.
I found Alice's voice rather soporific and found that I was losing concentration in her segments of the story. Jenna's performance was excellent!
This audio book would appeal to someone interested in elephants and the paranormal.

Absolutely brilliant
Love, love, love this book. Such a great story about the elephants and their journeys. The characters parts were really well read. Coming from South Africa and hearing of places we have been makes me miss the wildlife. I did however not expect the story to end the way it did, but awesome story.

Wow
I really enjoyed this story and the plot twist is fantastic! I should have seen it coming as I can usually figure it out pretty quickly but I didn’t this time so big thumbs up from me.
Jenna’s mother Alice went missing 10 years ago when Jenna was 3. Over the 10 years she has continued the search to find her Mum and eventually seeks the help of a down-and-out psychic and a jaded former detective who worked the case when it first happened. The mismatched trio makes it an interesting read as they all try to find some common ground where they can get along to do the job they’ve been tasked with.
Throughout the story we also get to know Alice through the journals she kept while studying elephants, her first passion. Whilst other reviews have mentioned they found the elephant facts tedious, I thoroughly enjoyed them. What amazing creatures they are! I thought it was very well done and didn’t mind it one bit.
