About this listen
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes a legendary standalone novel that navigates the seas and the stars of a far-future Cosmere. Narrated by Kaleo Griffith and Jennifer Jill Araya.
All his life, Sixth of the Dusk has been a traditional trapper of Aviar—the supernatural birds his people bond with—on the deadly island of Patji. Then one fateful night he propels his people into a race to modernize before they can be conquered by the Ones Above, invaders from the stars who want to exploit the Aviar.
But it’s a race they’re losing, and Dusk fears his people will lose themselves in the effort. When a chance comes to sail into the expanse of the emberdark beyond a mystical portal, Dusk sets off to find his people’s salvation with only a canoe, his birds, and all the grit and canniness of a Patji trapper.
Elsewhere in the emberdark is a young dragon chained in human form: Starling of the starship Dynamic. She and her ragtag crew of exiles are deep in debt and on the brink of losing their freedom. So when she finds an ancient map to a hidden portal between the emberdark and the physical realm, she seizes the chance at a lucrative discovery.
These unlikely allies might just be the solution to each other’s crisis. In their search for independence, Dusk and Starling face perilous bargains, poisonous politics, and the destructive echo of a dead god.
Sanderson expands his thrilling novella “Sixth of the Dusk” into a mythic novel of legends, lore, and warring galactic superpowers.

Masterfully crafted
If you've read sixth of the dusk, this is an excellent follow up and it masterfully incorporates the novela into its narrative.

Fantastic. I want more
Really enjoyed sixth of the dusk novella and it was awesome to finally get more of this story. (and bonus, it was released earlier than expected wooo)
The novella is incorporated into the book for those that haven't read it, and works well as periodic flashbacks.
Both narrators were fantastic, I was expecting Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading but Kaleo and Jennifer nailed it.
It takes place in a future era compared to the storm light and mistborn series where world hopping and planet travelling are common place. Both are referenced, more so the scadrians(mistborn), but it can also be read as a stand alone just fine.
It is really cool to see the cosmere coming together.
I really want to see more of Sixth and the dragons.
One of my favourites already

Strong sequel. Not perfect, but good.
Loved some aspects of this. All the bones of the story are good and there were genuine moments of tears and elation. I found the female narrator a bit too perky but otherwise talented. The male seemed a good fit for Dusk. My only complaint is there was less mystery and tension than the original book. Things are very openly explained and evident. Which is a trend in Sanderson's more recent books. I prefer authors to reveal things implicitly through the action rather than direct exposition. It takes away some of the grandeur and joy of discovery. Even ancient Dark Gods are made to seem commonplace. Still, this is the direction the author has consciously chosen for his work and he must have good reasons.

What a magical piece!
Incredible history! What an amazing and touching piece! The way it weaves parts of the cosmere together is wonderful. Love the touch of the wayfarer cultures too 🙏
