Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

One team must raise the alarm...and time is running out.
As Moldark turns his attention to Capriana Prime, Magnus and his gladias attempt to convince the Republic’s leadership to raise the planetary defense shield. But this seemingly simple task turns out to be more difficult than anyone expected, placing the planet’s population in grave jeopardy.
Desperate to save the capital, Magnus and the Gladio Umbra fight to save the seat of galactic rule at all costs.
Azelon isn’t without her tricks, however, and provides new hardware for Magnus—the BATRIG mechanized battle armament system.

Changing Narrator was a bad idea
Changing narrator was a terrible idea. The way it’s read is terrible and the different voices for the characters are poor compared to the last guy who narrated the last books
Sadly this was too much of a struggle to listen to and couldn’t finish it which is sad as I was such a huge fan of the series

Narrator change was terrible, and so drawn out
Changing narrator after 5 books was a terrible idea. The character voices all changed. Imagine recasting a character on your favourite TV show after 45hrs of watching it, but not only one character but all of them!
Also I think there's something wrong with the recording. I had to listen to this at 1.2x speed for it to sound normal. Either that or again the narrator has ... a ... very ... slow ... narration... style.
In terms of the story, I can't believe the whole book was literally just one battle. I get that this is meant to be military fiction, but the battles are so very drawn out with every single action being detailed, instead of skipping ahead in the battles. So very little really actually happened here in terms of story or character development.
Hard to review the story without spoilers. But there were some very questionable story choices in terms of who Magnus kills.
I'll stick it out, but hopefully the next book isn't as slow with the reading or story.

loved the series, characters, but with a new narrator they're all lost to me. Hope a big bad Bray re-record is on the cards. Nothing against Grant, sure it would have been ok if he did the whole series.

Just not the same...
Struggled to adapt to new reader and the change in character voices (granted, RC Bray is a hard act to follow).
All the battle passages were too long and drawn out. I often found myself zoned out from the story until there was some actual dialogue between characters.
Having said that, overall I thought it was an OK instalment...

Couldn't Finish It
Didn't check who was reading when I purchased, and just didn't enjoy the change from RCB. Really pushed to get about halfway through but just couldn't stand the new voice. Story seemed OK, but I guess this is where I leave this series as I don't like the change in voice.

really bad idea changing the narrator
while the new narrator isn't bad, he just doesn't measure up to rc bray. bray built up the characters in such a way that you built a bond. that bond was just shattered with a change in narrator. the characters are just not the same any more. if he was here from the start it might be different

Imminent Failure by name and nature
When I read a book, I get an image, a sound, a feel for the characters and places contained within the story. More than often, when a book ends up on the big or little screen, it barely resembles anything I imagined the story to be.
Unfortunately, by changing the narrator, all that I imagined the story to be has now changed, and I feel lost and confused . I just can't get into it, and after only two hours of listening, I have given up.
Im sure if you are new to the series, and this is the first book you have listened to, all will be fine, and you will enjoy the story, but for me it's an unpleasant experience and I will be deleting it from my library.
I don't know why the narrator was changed, but for me, it's a failure.

not a wise move changing narrators
Changing the narrator really killed the vibe of the story, although chris done a great job the characters just were not the same and didnt have the same aura to them
will be finishing the series reading them (at least then my inner dialog will be in RC Bray's voices)
