Publisher's Summary

Rebecca Keane has it all figured out. With a successful career as an Army surgeon and a fresh promotion to lieutenant colonel, she loves her life leading a surgical team. Even if that life means she’s spent years hiding her sexuality and ignoring her desires under the Army’s "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy. Then Captain Sabine Fleischer’s arrival sets off an attraction that cracks Rebecca’s carefully cultivated armor and brings about fresh complications.

As Sabine’s direct commanding officer, Rebecca knows she cannot act on her attraction, but that knowledge does nothing to squash her desires. Unable to keep her thoughts about the alluring other woman under control, Rebecca resigns herself to years of censoring her thoughts and feelings until Sabine’s time in the Army is done. She’s spent decades suppressing parts of herself for her job, so what’s a few more years?

But as Rebecca and Sabine work closely together on Army bases in Afghanistan and the States, the undeniable sparks between them begin to ignite. And despite Rebecca’s constant self-censure, her denials and her knowledge of every obstacle standing between them, her resolve crumbles with each passing day. But when the consequences of your love run deeper than just breaking one of the unbreakable rules of the military, you risk losing more than just your heart.

If I Don’t Ask is the must-hear story telling Rebecca’s side of E. J. Noyes’ best-selling Ask, Tell.

Five stars! Best romance book I've ever read!

It's a big call but this was the best audiobook I've ever listened to and the best romance book. Well written, the right mix of drama and humour and well rounded realistic characters. I'll have to deep dive into the author because this book was fantastic! Great narration too, loved it.

Absolute Magic!

I have no doubt this review will not do this story justice, I may come back and update at a later date. Ask Tell was the first WLW book I ever listened to. Little did I know that no other story/narrator would ever come close. When I heard 'If I Don't Ask' was coming, it was like Christmas morning. I absolutely LOVED this story. I knew I would but wow! I didn't see how fragile, sexy, intuitive and nervous Rebecca was. She certainly hides it well. She is so receptive to Sabine or maybe it's as if Sabine isn't as discreet with her hiding her emotions. I loved the familiarity of the story while also learning so much. I loved hearing of her friendship. I felt her heartbreak, desire, strength, fears, love and frustrations. Brilliant writing. I feel like Rebecca and Sabine are part of me somehow. This is so much more than a love story. Thank you E.

Fantastic!

Once again E.J Noyes has written an exciting, romatic and realistic book that is worth its weight in gold. Abbey Craden's narrative makes these characters come alive. Its dramatic and sexy and I will recommend it until the cows come home!

Master stroke by Noyes

Wow, what an awesome idea by E.J. Noyes to rewrite Ask, Tell from Rebecca's POV. As other reviewers have said, even though the main plot points are the same, hearing it from Rebecca made the story a totally new experience. And like the other books in the series, those powerful first person thoughts (especially being vocalised by Abby Craden) made me experience intense personal emotions in a way I have never felt when reading books before. I will definitely go back and read all 3 books again.

Brilliant!

I love this series from EJ Notes and am so glad that we get to read/listen to Rebecca's side of the story. I don't think writing a second book running over same to similar events, from a different characters POV could work for just any plotline or even any author...So what Noyes has done here is just brilliant!! The story is told from Rebecca's POV and is just as engaging and disarming as the original book, which is told from Sabine's POV. Both MC are SO intriguing and loveable that you can't help but want to know more about them! Abby Craden's voice and narration just brings this story to life and keeps you mesmerised! it was her voice of Rebecca that got me hooked on to her as a narrator (and also on to Noyes books overall!). So I loved getting to listen to a whole book, dedicated to Rebecca and her thoughts and actions regarding Sabine! Theirs is one of the best love stories I've read and I love how the series doesn't involve unnecessary angst or unnecessary anything quite frankly. It has just the right amount of reflection and depth balanced with lightness and story progression! I honestly can't say enough about this book and the series as a whole! Was upset that Yana's story wasn't narrated by Craden but even that book was too good to pass up despite this (bk3 was top notch!). I had one thought though as I was listening to Rebecca, and it was, it would've been nice to have this book start further into Bec and Sabs relationship so we could get a glimpse of what went on during bk2 or even during Yana's story...but if another book from Bec's POV is coming out then obviously my point is a moot one.

A story we know & love-just not exactly AS we know now it.

I love hearing how Rebecca & Sabine fell in love, this time from Rebecca’s point of view. It’s a story we know & love, just not quite as we know it.
Beautifully narrated by Abby Craden as usual.
