Publisher's Summary

An original novel set in the Halo universe - based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

The year 2559. Formerly one of the Covenant’s greatest and most fearsome warriors, Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam is now allied with his former human enemies while deeply entrenched in leading the Sangheili people to a new era of unification. But his aspirations are under constant threat, whether by the dangerous, warring factions of rival Sangheili keeps or the relentless shadow of oppression spread by the renegade artificial intelligence Cortana.

An opportunity to break Cortana’s chains has suddenly presented itself through the rumored existence of an ancient artifact located on the hostile world of Netherop. Spartan Olympia Vale, trained with the skills to live and thrive among the Sangheili, also recognizes this alien prize as an essential means to aid humanity in reaching the same goal of freedom. But behind the scenes, both ‘Vadam and Vale are being manipulated by a mysterious figure with their own agenda. And to make matters worse, all involved are unknowingly placing themselves at perilous odds with forces beyond their comprehension....

10/10

The story is amazing. I love how we got more Sangheili lore and learning more about their culture as well.

might have been better to read than listen to

simply struggled with the narration. all respect to scott brick as im sure its not an easy job but there felt like there was no difference between any of the voices of any character. i sort of expect narrators to be similar to voive actors where they can give some differentiation to voices. i couldnt help but feel the arbiter was a completely different character to keith davids version. sorry mild rant over. i enjoyed the story had to keep looking up what had happened in the previous master chief stories as I forgot them completely 😅 looking forward to where they take the new...villains?

The Arbiter is back

A fantastic story that continues to build the lore of this great universe and developing some important side characters. Great to see our boy Arbiter back in action and how the story links to a previous book. I also enjoyed Spartan Vale reflect on her previous actions againts the John 117. I found the link to a previous book smooth and logical making the story seem natural.

The performance however was to a satisfactory standard. Although the naration was good the lack of ability to change variations in characters left for a dry and monotone listening. its a difficult job but there has to be some clear difference in characters as ot was at times difficult to know who was speaking.

Another Excellent Troy Denning Halo novel

Perhaps a little more measured and deliberative than Denning's recent contributions to the Halo universe, Outcasts uses its unique combination of locales and characters to create some surreal situations and interactions that ought to be hugely entertaining to long-time Halo readers. Its only downfall is that characters sometimes seem to spend a strangely long time deliberating their actions and debating, even in very stressful situations. Scott Brick's narration feels very suitable for the universe and the sort of characters it contains, you can't really fault it.
