Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Publisher's Summary
The triumphant conclusion to the Tawny Man trilogy, from the author of the bestselling Farseer and Liveship Traders trilogies.
The moving end to the tale of the Farseers, in which kingdoms must stand or fall on the beat of a dragon's wings, or a Fool's heart.
A small and sadly untried coterie – the old assassin Chade, the serving-boy Thick, Prince Dutiful, and his reluctant Skillmaster, Fitz – sail towards the distant island of Aslevjal. There they must fulfil the Narcheska’s challenge to her betrothed: to lay the head of the dragon Icefyre, whom legends tell is buried there deep beneath the ice, upon her hearth. Only with the completion of this quest can the marriage proceed, and the resulting alliance signal an end to war between the two kingdoms.
It is not a happy ship: tensions between the folk of the Six Duchies and their traditional enemies, the Outislanders, lie just beneath the surface. Thick is constantly ill, and his random but powerful Skilling has taken on a dark and menacing tone, while Chade’s fascination with the Skill is growing to the point of obsession.
Having ensured that his beloved friend the Fool is safely left behind in Buckkeep, Fitz is guilt-stricken; but he is determined to keep his fate at bay, since prophecy foretells the Fool’s death if he ever sets foot on the isle of the black dragon. But as their ship draws in towards Aslevjal a lone figure awaits them…

Absolutely love these books
I have read the books multiple times and listened to the audio books multiple times now also.. They really should have done some editing, there are multiple parts that are repeated due to no editing.. The narrator's in this series and the last series are ok, there are many more narrator's out there that are far better.. Apart from that, I still absolutely love these books!!

Narration excellent. Story good. Editing poor.
Hobb is an amazing story teller. I was disappointed by the lack of fight scenes in this trilogy. The character development remains exceptional. it moves a little slowly at times. Narration was excellent - consistent and clear. Th editing is woeful - many repeats and cut-outs - it was quite distracting from the story at times.

Fantastic story and end to the trilogy
Unfortunately it was let down by the poor editing. Repeated phrases pull you out of the story.

Beautiful story
It's so rare to find a story so heart rending and so well told, I got the impression that the reader had fallen in love with the story by the end.

Small editing mistakes
Great narrator, subtle differences in character voices allow you to fill out the rest.
some times where the dialogue is doubled but no more than 10 seconds at a time.

Brilliant book, brilliantly read!
Robin Hobb is the best fantasy author ever, and Nicholas Taylor read/performed the Tawny Man Trilogy perfectly. He nailed Chade's and Dutiful's voices in particular. Well done!!

Brilliant Story as always
Robin Hobb always writes an excellent story and her character development is second to none. I have read this book a number of time, but it was a different experience listening to it. I must admit I prefer Nick Taylor, to the narrator of the first trilogy. for anyone who likes a good story, take a listen!

Wonderful conclusion to an incredible Trilogy
My goodness. This just hits in all the right places. All the threads that have been developing on over the last 6 (9 including Liveship) is really brought together here in a very special way. The resolution was on the money and has me all up in my feelings. Thank you Robin Hobb for this gift. Also, a wonderful narration.
