Publisher's Summary
In 2010, thousands of feet in the air above Singapore, the 469 passengers aboard QF32 found themselves in a crisis that no one could have anticipated when the A380 in which they were flying suffered a catastrophic explosion.
Captain Richard de Crespigny and his crew confronted extraordinary challenges over the next four hours, with only three partially working engines, and a potentially explosive plane facing an imminent emergency landing. Even experienced crash investigators later revealed they thought recovery in such circumstances was impossible. Yet in the end all aboard walked away safely.
Why was there a seemingly miraculous outcome to what could so easily have become one of the world's worst aviation disasters? And how did the captain and his crew remain so calm in such a stressful situation? The answer is leadership, teamwork and skill.
In Fly!, Richard de Crespigny shares the insights and techniques he built up over decades in the high-pressure world of military and civilian aviation. Covering leadership, teamwork, risk assessment, decision-making, crisis management, lifelong resilience and more, it's a book whose wisdom can be applied to challenges and opportunities in the workplace as well as to life. Including exclusive insights from fellow hero pilot Sully Sullenberger, astronaut Neil Armstrong, NASA's Gene Kranz and others who have, like Richard de Crespigny, succeeded under intense pressure, Fly! will enable everybody to perform at their best and to succeed in any situation.

Basically most of the book.
Amazing. I loved the story about QANTAS Flight QF32, the facts about the Airbus A380 (In particular the Nancy Bird Walton VH-OQA), the stories of other pilots (such as Capt. Peter Burkill of British Airways Flight BA38 and Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger of US Airways Flight 1549) and hero's, and people who acted best when they were thrust into challenging situations. I also liked the knowledge and information on different life skills, and I am trying to implement some of them into my own life. Definitely in my Top 5 Favourite Books.

He could see the bigger picture
I love the bit how the airline industry shares everything, unlike the medical system that keeps killing people.

An example of overcoming adversity and finding your why
Originally I thought this was mostly going to be about the QF32 incident and didn’t think too hard about the life lessons that would be spoken about, however Richard delves into the psyche of what makes humans so unique.
The ability to explain and untangle the concepts of leadership, human drive and innovation was a pleasant surprise and kept me engaged, this left me thinking about the impact people have on each other especially in times where leadership and adversity can go terribly wrong but Richard manages to explain how it can also go incredibly right. Anyone going into a leadership position or considering giving any form of leadership a crack could learn a lot from the book and get a good reminder to remain humble.
