Publisher's Summary

Fearful of losing his precarious hold on the Golden Lion Throne, Shaddam IV, emperor of a Million Worlds, has devised a radical scheme to develop an alternative to melange, the addictive spice that binds the Imperium together and that can be found only on the desert world of Dune.

In subterranean labs on the machine planet Ix, cruel Tleilaxu overlords use slaves and prisoners as part of a horrific plan to manufacture a synthetic form of melange known as amal. If amal can supplant the spice from Dune, it will give Shaddam what he seeks: absolute power.

I know the authors got a lot of abuse for these works

The authors got a lot of crap for these and other books, honest, I really liked them, read them in physical form a few years after the first came out, and LOVED them, rereading them here now, my opinion is the same, they are not the original, never going to be, but they do take me back to that place I loved growing up..
and make me want to read the original again, so really..

Good job guys.

Brian HERBERT has turned June into a Soapie

It is sad to see what is happening to the prequels and the sequels written post-mortem of Frank HERBERT – many of his key concepts have been contradicted – there are no philosophical conundrums that will challenge the reader – the plots are juvenile and predictable with huge holes – it would even disappoint Agatha Christie readers-,the characters are two-dimensional– never doing anything outside of their prescribed roles – never really adding any depth to the characters – the psychopaths remain psychopaths – in fact it has degenerated into a Journal of serial killers in some respect – but even the serial killers have Tender moments – relationships – and reasons for what they do , none of this is addressed – worlds and rulers of worlds leave their planets open inviting attack – undefended – and the reasons for the tit for tatting between the houses has turned into reasonings that you would hear from kindergarten children–– many of the minor and major plot points that were established by Frank Herbert – being contradicted – for instance the face dancing couple that narrate his later books – are being indicated to not be faced dancers – which undermines the whole idea of the breeding program that will allow humanity to continue – but in what form? Which is the direction that I believe Frank Herbert would’ve taken the books if he was still alive –the origin of the honoured martrés is being ignored – and plus points that are simple and linear and have no surprises – unfortunately very predictable – I was hoping they would get better – but I can’t see myself reading any more – very disappointed- it has sort of spoil it for me – I would’ve been better off not reading any more books that were written after the death of Frankie-
