Publisher's Summary

In the dead of night, on the morning of March 21, 2003 a team of 12 highly-trained U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers aboard three Special Operations Chinook helicopters, flying at low-altitude, watched in awe as a barrage of Tomahawk missiles, launched from ships in the Red Sea, flew less than 300 feet over their aircraft on the way toward Baghdad, Iraq. It was the opening “Shock and Awe” salvo of the Invasion of Iraq and the soldiers of 5th Special Forces Group’s Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) 551 were about to be dropped off for one of the most critical missions of the war.

From beating the Taliban in Afghanistan in record time, to assisting in rebuilding the government of Karbala, Iraq, to taking incoming rocket rounds as a convoy gunner in and around Baghdad, this is the incredible story of an uncommon Special Forces leader and the men he commanded at a time when chaos reigned.

Based on a facts, Disciple of Chaos is an accurate fictional account about the bravery, dedication, and honor shared by these men during their time deployed in Iraq.

After his career as an enlisted Military Intelligence soldier, Sergeant First Class Dean Rogers decides to take inventory of his considerable leadership experience and becomes an officer in the U.S. Army Special Forces, eventually reaching elite status as a Green Beret commander.

After the devastating terrorist attacks of 9-11, Captain Rogers is selected to command one of the famed Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha groups in Afghanistan at the outset of Operation Enduring Freedom, handing the Taliban their total defeat in a matter of a few months.

From there, Rogers prepares his team for a critical mission in Iraq, during the runup of the inevitable invasion in 2003.

Disciple of Chaos is a fast-paced fictional recounting of the confusing and dangerous days in pre- and post-invasion Iraq. Captain Rogers manages his team as problems pop up every minute of every day. The chaotic nature of the different people and problems, some very serious and potentially deadly, and some comical and stranger than fiction, are all faced by Rogers and his team, who do their best to bring order to the unpredictability of war.
