Eddie Royce is an up-and-coming science fiction writer with a terrible secret: he cheats. He knew he'd get caught, of course. Eventually. But not like this. Story
It’s the find of a lifetime - an ancient alien spaceship, hanging in a forgotten corner of space. For Song, this could change everything. She’s got as many problems with her finances as she does in her marriage - but maybe, at last, her passion for wreck-diving will pay off. One piece of unknown tech could set her whole crew up for life. The ship conforms to nothing in their records, and dwarfs the largest human vessels. Battle-scarred, and old before humanity ever reached the stars, it’s a mausoleum of an unknown, long-dead species. And it’s just winked at her.

Ringo Devereux knows far too much for a man of his times. There's no simple explanation for it that doesn't involve improbable conversations about the future, and Ringo's advanced understanding of three-phase generators and the secret histories of his city are not things he can discuss with the Victorian Londoners around him. Even his origins as an orphaned street thief are far too dangerous for a young gentleman of means to reveal. An encounter with a 10-year-old pickpocket, and a luncheon with Oscar Wilde and Arthur Conan Doyle draw Ringo back into the shadows of his criminal past.

Story
This anthology, with an introduction by Robert Silverberg, offers a sweeping survey of robots as depicted throughout literature. Since the Iliad—in which we are shown golden statues built by Hephaestus “with minds and wisdoms”—humans have been fascinated by the idea of artificial life. From the Argonautica to the medieval Jewish legend of the Golem and Ambrose Bierce’s tale of a chess-playing robot, the idea of what robots are—and who creates them—can be drastically different.
Publisher's Summary
A master of the macabre and an ageless crusader cross paths in the shadows of time...
“Ye who read are still among the living; but I who write shall have long since gone my way into the region of shadows.” (Edgar Allan Poe)
The first time Alexandra “Ren” Reynolds meets Edgar Allan Poe is the night he walks into her underground bar - over 170 years after his mysterious death.
Ren has heard rumors of “Clockers” - the Descendants of Time who can travel through portals. But until she can find the portal Poe accidentally used to reach 21st Century Baltimore, she’s stuck with him. And there is a problem: Someone else has seen Poe and now they’re hunting for him. Not even Ren’s fledgling friendship with Officer Nick Pieretti will keep the vigilante away.
Hiding an arrogant anti-abolitionist in a secret room in her bar – once a station along the Underground Railroad - is oddly satisfying to the descendant of slaves. But Ren has much bigger secrets to conceal than the out-of-time presence of Edgar Allan Poe, and the events that transpire during their brief time together will alter both their destinies forever.
