Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the god king one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn’t like his job, and the immortal who’s still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren’s capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can only be collected one unit at a time from individual people.

Story
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Publisher's Summary
From Brandon Sanderson—author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive and its fourth massive installment, Rhythm of War—comes a new hefty novella, Dawnshard. Taking place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, this tale (like Edgedancer before it) gives often-overshadowed characters their own chance to shine.
When a ghost ship is discovered, its crew presumed dead after trying to reach the storm-shrouded island Akina, Navani Kholin must send an expedition to make sure the island hasn't fallen into enemy hands. Knights Radiant who fly too near find their Stormlight suddenly drained, so the voyage must be by sea.
Shipowner Rysn Ftori lost the use of her legs but gained the companionship of Chiri-Chiri, a Stormlight-ingesting winged larkin, a species once thought extinct. Now Rysn's pet is ill, and any hope for Chiri-Chiri’s recovery can be found only at the ancestral home of the larkin: Akinah. With the help of Lopen, the formerly one-armed Windrunner, Rysn must accept Navani's quest and sail into the perilous storm from which no one has returned alive. If the crew cannot uncover the secrets of the hidden island city before the wrath of its ancient guardians falls upon them, the fate of Roshar and the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

continued brilliance
how does he keep doing it, I am starting to expect Brandon to announce he is from another planet all along just like the hard hitting twists he throws around so casually.
different story that fits so perfectly every interaction dragging you deeper and deeper into the world. jaw dropping, heart wrenching scenes that feel like your standing in the room when it happens.
I enjoyed this book very much.

Cheery-Cheery for this one!
A couple of big cheers for this one. Great to have a fix for my Stormlight saga obsession and really good to have Rysn, Chiri-Chiri and the Lopen get an adventure where they learn to shine! I can see great things for these guys. I do think Michael could do a better Lopen accent but otherwise all good! Thanks!

OK entry
To be honest I found large stretches this one kind of mediocre or mildly annoying, but the ending was good and has significance for the larger series. Perhaps you’ll love it from start to finish, but if not, consider increasing the playback speed.

More Lopen
You wanted more Lopen. You got it. Could have done with slightly more Lopen but as The Lopen would say, there's only so much Lopen one can fit into a book. The Lopen.
Lopen, Lopen. The Lopen.

Fantasy with representation
Sanderson does it again. This time with a fantastic take from A character with challenges oft unrepresented in fantasy, using a unique skill set to take on what’s in front of her.
Comes before Rhythm of War. I’ll be rereading that next.

This Man Just Doesn't Miss
It is a testament to Sanderson's writing that he can take a group of exclusively side characters, and make an enjoyable little story with massive greater implications. This story acts to add more intrigue and insight into the greater Cosmere universe, whilst not just being a lore dump. Lopen is hilarious, and Rysn feels like a really authentic, genuine character. Her struggles with the social aspect of her disability, and the interactions she has with Lopen in particular are a highlight. It's a lot of fun and it sets up a great mood for the next mainline Stormlight book, Rhythm of War.

Excellent story
Brandon Sanderson tells the most amazing tales and this one is full of adventure and humour and wonderful characters. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading (an interesting name) are two of the best Narrators around.
