This event has a shocking ricochet effect on a group of people, mostly friends, who are directly or indirectly influenced by the incident. Story
It’s 2006, and terror scaremongering in the media has rattled the residents of sleepy, suburban Dunlop Crescent. When a Maori family moves into number 14, the local cranks assume they are Middle Eastern terrorists hell-bent on destroying the Australian way of life. Rumour has it that they plan to turn their house to face Mecca. This sets off an extraordinary chain of events that embroils the entire neighbourhood as well as cynical media figures, bumbling antiterrorist police and a gang of white supremacists with a radical plan to wake up the country and ‘preserve Australian values’.

The legendary star of the classic sitcom I Love Lucy was at the pinnacle of her success when she sat down to record the story of her life. No comedienne had made America laugh so hard, no television actress had made the leap from radio and B movies to become one of the world’s best-loved performers. This is her story—in her own words.

Publisher's Summary
'Are you happy in your life?'
Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he wakes to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before the man he's never met smiles down at him and says, 'Welcome back, my friend.'
In this world he's woken up to, Jason's life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.
Is it this world or the other that's the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could've imagined - one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.
From the author of the best-selling Wayward Pines trilogy, Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human - a relentlessly surprising thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we'll go to claim the lives we dream of.

Interesting story. Not so strong writing.
I appreciated the overall story and how it eventually introduced some interesting concepts particularly the back half. Definitely a page turner and if you haven't read anything in this realm (SciFi/thriller combo) I can imagine you might really enjoy this. For me, I'm glad it's over. I found it incredibly cringe worthy, plot holes as far as the eye can see and in my opinion not written very well. If you want good sci fi this is not what I would be recommending.

Sliding doors meets Sci Fi
Enjoyed this book. Interesting concept. I enjoyed the mystery in the beginning of the story as the main character Jason attempts to piece together what is going on. I think the second half dragged once the mystery was solved and I personally would loved to have had more action & suspense to make the book into a real page turner.

It was a little slow to start and I almost stopped but glad I continued because it was thoroughly entertaining. I finished it too fast.
The performance was part of what put me off at the beginning, especially when it's came to women's dialogues.
