Publisher's Summary

Mitch Rapp returns to make a mortal enemy of Russia in this high-octane installment in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from ‘one of the best thriller writers on the planet’ (The Real Book Spy).

Mitch Rapp hates owing anyone a favor—especially when it’s the world’s most powerful crime lord. But when Damian Losa calls, Mitch is honor-bound to answer.

The Syrian government appears to have created a highly addictive new narcotic that it plans to distribute throughout Europe. It’s a major threat to Losa’s business and he’s determined to send someone to keep him on top by any means necessary. Rapp is the perfect choice for the mission. Not only does he have extensive experience operating in the Middle East, he’s also entirely expendable.

As he crosses into war-torn Syria, Rapp quickly discovers a shocking truth. The new drug isn’t being produced by Damascus to prop up the government’s collapsing finances. Instead, it was created by Russia’s asymmetrical warfare unit, not for profit but as a weapon against the West.

With far more than Damian Losa’s interests at stake, Rapp devises a desperate plan that forces him and his team onto a battlefield where the United States is virtually powerless, and allegiances shift almost hourly. Because if Russia uncovers their plot, it will set off a confrontation between the two countries that could change the course of human history.

Not what we have come to expect

The story lacked punch and the ending fizzed out rather than give a sense of satisfaction

What’s happened to George??

Really difficult to enjoy the book as you become so used to how George emulates Mitch, Claudia, Anna and Irene particularly and the new narrator just doesn’t seem to be able to replicate that. Not sure it would be fair to say he’s bad at what he does but a change after so many other great books with one voice is hard to work with.

Actually, I really like this narrator;)

Agree that the storyline in this book isn’t as engaging as some of the previous ones, but overall it’s still worth buying.

Don’t agree that this narrator isn’t as good as George Guidall. I love George’s voice and he’s probably a lovely man, but he makes every character sound like a 70 year old chain-smoker. In his narrations, Scott Coleman now sounds exactly like Stan Hurley used to!! Not like I picture hot, mid-40’s special forces men to sound. Also, Steven Weber can do passable French and Russian accents. Not everyone sounds like they’re from the Middle East. Maybe Americans can’t tell the difference, no offence.

Another thing, I liked that he didn’t pause in the story-telling to get his breath. I often find that really distracting.

So anyway, I like Steven Weber and would buy another Mitch Rapp book if he’s reading it.

Poor Narration

Have been an avid Mitch Rapp fan from the very first book. Whilst the story line of this book was very good, it was difficult to focus and complete the story. The narrator was terrible and not suited to Mitch Rapp. George Guidall needs to be brought back for future books.

Another good yarn

I enjoyed the book but found the new narrator lacking an ability to engage the listener as well as George do. A good storyline and lots of action as Mitch evolves.
The next book will be interesting with a new author!

change of narrator makes it hard to listen to

good story but absolutely devastated that George Guidall did not narrate the book. It really detracts from the story, almost that the new narrator wasn't actually putting effort into the story or a fan of Vince Flynn

Best ever?

Arguably, the best Mitch Rapp saga to date; complex, compassionate, and thoroughly entertaining. Bravo, team!

Good but it's probably time...

There's a limit to what you can do after 25 books or so though it is getting old. You can tell Mitch is evolving as a character still though and there was a lot of reflection on his younger life and I would look forward to having Mitch take on a role like Stan did in American Assassin and 'pass the torch'.

Disappointing

Avid Mitch Rapp fan read all the books found it very hard to get in to. Found it difficult to connect with the narrator and didn’t like the story line but maybe it would have been better with George.
Where’s George?
Listening to all the series you know the characters through George’s narration and bringing in the new narrator just doesn’t do the book justice.

Narration SOOO bad - I gave up

I am a huge Mitch Rapp, so imagine my disappointment when after 21 great books, I had to give up on Book 22. The narrator sucked all life out of the characters and the accents were so bad! Whoever selected this narrator - hold your head in shame, you have done a massive disservice to Vince Flynn, Kyle Mills and all Mitch Rapp fans. Onto Book 23..,
