Story
Levi Bellfield is one of the most notorious British serial killers of the last fifty years - his name alone evokes horror and revulsion, after his string of brutal murders in the early 2000s. At 3:07pm on 21st March, 2002, Milly Dowler left her school in Surrey for the last time. Less than an hour later, she was to be abducted and murdered in the cruellest fashion, sparking a missing person investigation that would span months before her body was found.

Story
In early 1943 Britain was engaged in an epic struggle for survival. As the deadly wolf packs of German U-boats roamed the Atlantic, supply lines and shipping losses fell victim to the carnage. In desperation, Churchill turned to the RAF's maritime wing - an overlooked, underfunded force known as "The Cinderella Service". But the ascendancy of the U-boat forced a change in attitude. Provided with the long-range planes, depth charges, rocket projectiles and radar equipment with which to challenge the enemy. The Cinderella boys provided vital air defence.

Publisher's Summary
THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER
A masterly history of the Dambusters raid from bestselling and critically acclaimed Max Hastings.
Operation Chastise was one of the most extraordinary episodes of the Second World War, yet it has also become one of the most misunderstood.
Max Hastings tells the gripping story of the Dambusters raid, from the invention of the bouncing bomb to the moonlit cockpits of young pilots flying at treetop height through lethal enemy fire. But Hastings also challenges what we think we know about the Dambusters, bringing to light the difficult truths that have often been left out of the legend.
Critic Reviews
"Brings it to life as never before...Hour by nerve-jangling hour." (Daily Mail)
"Superb...The heroes shine, but their achievement haunts." (Times)
"A virtuoso performance from a veteran military historian. It is a white-knuckle narrative that brings clarity and insight to a much-loved tale, as well as offering a vital corrective to the drum-thumping conclusions of earlier books." (Sunday Times)

Max tells the real “Dam-busters” story
Excellent story, warts and all, with 360 degree views yet still giving some individual view. I am finding Max’s Audio books reliable, informative and listenable

Operation Chastise
A good, general overview on the Dam Busters Raid as told with Max Hasting's customary flair and emphasis on the human element in war time. Very good, choppy narration by Peter Noble. While more definitive histories are available covering Bomber Command's most lauded operation of WW2, this serves as an excellent narration to the layman or to a reader not wanting to be bogged down in technical details.
