For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

When investigative journalist Dan McCrum first came across Wirecard, the hot new tech company that looked poised to challenge Silicon Valley, it all looked a little too good to be true: offices were sprouting up all over the world, and they were reporting runaway growth. In the space of a few short years, the company had come from nowhere to overtake industry giants like Commerzbank and Deutsche Bank on the stock market. As McCrum began to dig deeper, he encountered a story stranger and more compelling than he could have imagined.

Great story, difficult narration
- By Anonymous User on 02-10-2023
Publisher's Summary
In a dramatic account of violence and espionage, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Ronan Farrow exposes serial abusers and a cabal of powerful interests hell-bent on covering up the truth, at any cost.
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led Ronan Farrow to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood's most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.
All the while, Farrow and his producer faced a degree of resistance that could not be explained - until now. And a trail of clues revealed corruption and cover-ups from Hollywood, to Washington, and beyond.
This is the untold story of the exotic tactics of surveillance and intimidation deployed by wealthy and connected men to threaten journalists, evade accountability and silence victims of abuse - and it's the story of the women who risked everything to expose the truth and spark a global movement.
Both a spy thriller and a meticulous work of investigative journalism, Catch and Kill breaks devastating new stories about the rampant abuse of power - and sheds far-reaching light on investigations that shook the culture.

Great book, pity about the accents
Was a great book, such an eye opener. The one thing I hated was the accents that the author put on, they weren’t needed and cheapened the importance of the story.

Excellent book- the narration was disappointing
I read the book and loved it so much I bought the audio version. I was as good as the book but the narrator assuming the roles of different characters by adopting weird accents was distracting and almost comical - it took away from a story that had such impact and changed society.

Journalist with integrity
I could not stop listening and spent eleven consecutive hours with Farrow. His narrative on sexual predators is worth the time and effort. It is tough at times to listen to the descriptions, particularly for a woman who experience such abuse, but it is captivating with no dull moments. I congratulate Farrow on his integrity and inclination towards ethical journalism. His perseverance and deep investigative work brought a powerful man (and probably others to come) to justice. Let's hope his book becomes a culture changer. Our society needs more Farrows out there uncovering the truth. Highly recommend this audible.
