Story
Ekavir is a hardworking lumberjack's son. It isn't his fault crows speak in eldritch voices when he walks through the forest, or that his blood-red eyes leave the village kids shaking in their shoes. He might be the latest incarnation of a dreaded god known as the Primordial, but he never asked for that. He doesn't even know. When knights arrive hunting for the Ender of Realms, Vir loses his idyllic life along with his chance to be anything else. To grow strong enough to survive, he'll have to become the Primordial.

Publisher's Summary
Alex Verus has a magic shop in Camden, London, and an uncanny ability to see the future. But suddenly everyone can see Alex's future. Because the Mage's Council of Great Britain just named him a traitor and ordered his death in seven days' time, and there's no way anyone can get out of that.
Alex's friends - Luna and the other apprentices he's taken in - are tainted by association. They'll be marked for death, too, when the ruling comes into play, and Alex becomes locked in a race against time to save them. But with only seven days to work with, will he have time left over save his own skin?

consistently engaging
once drawn into Alex Verus's world, and become attached to its characters, engaged by their growth, and Alex's journey, I found the series compelling. it isn't a literary epic, but it is satisfying and intriguing, and Burned fulfilled my expectations well enough that i will be proceeding directly to purchase Bound.

Burned indeed!
Another compelling A Verus story with lots of character development in this one - lots of change for everyone to deal with and not as sweet an ending as usual for our hero and his friends, which really just leaves us wanting more! Good book - great series - onto 'Bound'!
