Driven: The Men Who Made Formula One tells how a small group of extraordinary men transformed Formula One from a niche sport played out on primitive tracks surrounded by hay bales and grass verges into a £1 billion circus performing in vast theatres of entertainment all over the world. Led by Bernie Ecclestone, the billionaire ringmaster, this clique started by scraping a living to go racing and ended up creating space-age cars and turning drivers from amateur gladiators into multimillion-pound superstars, like Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton, while the names of Ferrari, McLaren and Williams are now as familiar around the world as Manchester United or Real Madrid.

Refreshingly Balanced
- By Looshbaby on 08-01-2021
Publisher's Summary
For nearly forty years he has ruthlessly exploited and dominated Formula One motor racing, and now he is setting his sights further afield...This is the true story of Bernie Ecclestone, the street-smart, working-class kid who masterminded the transformation of Formula One from an amateur sport of the fifties into a global billion dollar industry of the 21st century.
Now, with his GBP2.5bn fortune, influence and power, Bernie has moved into the world of football with Renault F1 boss Flavio Briatore to turn Queen's Park Rangers, a struggling west London club, into a serious rival to the capital's glamour club, Chelsea. To many he was the saviour of Formula One, but there are also those who came into conflict with his methods. They have a different story to tell. Bernie Ecclesone, King of Sport reveals the unbridled avarice, callousness and corruption behind the hype of Formula One - and the warts-and-all character of the man who is now making his mark on the beautiful game. This is the true, astonishing story of the single most powerful man in thew world of sport today.

Out of Date
The book is ok for the period that it covers. It was originally published in 2008 and, despite being re released in 2014 it really offers very little past the original 2008 publication.

Terrible book - woefully narrated.
This book is by far the worst book I have ever read. The story gets lost in unnecessary detail, and the narrator was absolutely terrible (Siri could have done a better job). I hung-in until about the last 30 minutes (in the hope it might have an interesting ending- it didn't).
Don't waste your money on this one folks.

Appalling narration.
I've listened to over 150 audio books and this is the first time I've given up on one (after 4 hours of peserverance) due to narration. I seriously doubt the narrator is real - it sounds like a robot. The intonation is all wrong and incredibly dull. Audible should refund money on this one. And the author should withdraw the book until a new narrator is found. I ignored a previous reviewers warning about this. Word of advice: don't ignore mine.
