The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Story
In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid—a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.”

Story
With their vast cargo holds and a crew that could fill a city, the Greatships are the lifeblood of human-occupied space, transporting an unimaginable volume - and value - of goods from City, the greatest human orbital, all the way to Tradepoint at the other, to trade for xenoglas with an unknowable alien species. It has always been Marca Nbaro's dream to achieve the near-impossible: escape her upbringing and venture into space.

Publisher's Summary
The stunning conclusion to the trilogy that began with the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning Ancillary Justice.
For just a moment, things seem to be under control for the soldier known as Breq. Then a search of Atheok Station's slums turns up someone who shouldn't exist - someone who might be an ancillary from a ship that's been hiding beyond the empire's reach for three thousand years.
In the meantime, a messenger from the alien and mysterious Presger empire arrives, as does Breq's enemy, the divided and quite possibly insane Anaander Mianaai - ruler of an empire that's at war with itself.
Anaander is heavily armed and extremely unhappy with Breq. She could take her ship and crew and flee, but that would leave everyone at Athoek in terrible danger. Breq has a desperate plan. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before.

May not have finished if not for Andoh's narration
Great sci-fi, but very much a thinking person's one, not for lovers of action or space opera. The narrator really brought the characters to life with the amazing multitude of voices she carried. The story was good, but I wasn't blown away.

so sad it’s over - on to Leckie’s other works!
a brilliant end to the saga. subtle, thoughtful, surprising. i love Leckie’s ability to weave in a lot of historical and cultural themes, exploring colonialism, gender and class but without ever feeling heavy-handed or preaching. it’s deeply woven into the fabric of the narrative, the canvas on which the story plays out.
andoh’s narration is perfect for this story. calm and understated, but yet full of colour and nuanced expression of emotion. and her accents... 👌 just so good. fast becoming one of my all time favourite narrators

Worthy conclusion to the series
I enjoyed this book, it's character driven and continues to centre around a small system rather than grand space opera style. People who prefer mighty space fleet battles and galaxy spanning stories will likely struggle. But if you liked the second book in the series you'll like this one also. The narration was great although there was great emphasis on various national accents to distinguish voices. It worked though.
