Story
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Publisher's Summary
Only his memories can save her…
A great primal power has risen. The Queen of Flesh and Fire has become the Primal of Blood and Bone—the true Primal of Life and Death. And the battle Casteel, Poppy, and their allies have been fighting has only just begun. Gods are awakening across Iliseeum and the mortal realm, readying for the war to come.
But when Poppy falls into stasis, Cas faces the very real possibility that the dire, unexpected consequences of what she is becoming could take her away from him. Cas is given some advice, though—something he plans to cling to as he waits to see her beautiful eyes open once more: Talk to her.
And so, he does. He reminds Poppy how their journey began, revealing things about himself that only Kieran knows in the process. But it’s anybody’s guess what she’ll wake to or exactly how much of the realm and Cas will have changed when she does.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout revisits Poppy and Casteel’s epic love story in the next installment of the Blood and Ash series. But this time, Hawke gets to tell the tale.
Critic Reviews
“Narrator Tim Campbell returns to the role of Casteel Da'Neer in the fifth book in the Blood and Ash series.… Tim Campbell captures the sarcastic and flirtatious sides of the prince. Campbell's sonorous voice is as easy to fall in love with as the character of Casteel, making Campbell the perfect casting choice.”—AudioFile Magazine
“Expertly and vividly performed with the impressive narrative vocal styles of Tim Campbell, this…will have a very special attraction to fans of vampire romance fantasy fiction. Original, self-contained, and a must for the growing legions of Jennifer L. Armentrout fans.”—Midwest Book Review

Enjoyed it, but disappointed
Should’ve been more of a .02 book instead of a next in the series, it just recapped everything. Through Hawks always Except for the last chapter really, That was really good and left me with an outburst of HELL NO! when it ended because I wonted more. I didn’tdidn’t mind the narrator at all,He has a pleasant, deep voice and you could separate the characters well.
I do hope there is a next in the series, and it actually is a complete storyline not a recap again.

Book 1 from another view
I love this series but qas disappointed that this was a repeat of book 1 from a different point of view. Don't get your hopes up if you wanted more from the end of book 3.

Worth it!
This is so much more than just a rehash of the first book, there are so many scenes that we never saw in Poppy’s perspective. But damn that last scene had me gasping and shouting!! Cannot wait for the next book!

Repeat of first book.
Previous books were great so I was a bit disappointed to hear 19 hours of Cass POV of the first book. Should’ve been a 0.5 book, if you’re getting frustrated listening you can basically skip to the final chapter and you won’t miss anything! Wish there was more story progression.

The perspective I didn't want I needed.
Wow! Apart from an amazing voice actor, this story was a lot of fun. A brilliant alternative perspective to the story so far. Though we don't get a lot of "new" content it's still definitely an enjoyable read, learning more about the supporting characters.

Literally book one retold.
Tim Campbell does an amazing job narrating, and it’s a pleasure to listen to his voice – the story is amazing, but we know it already -and like others I am so disappointed that this is a retelling of book one from Kieran’s First person perspective; lovely to re-live, but…
No one makes explicit sex as genuinely loving and private as Armentrout, and Tim translates the emotion and physicality brilliantly…
But that doesn’t take away from the fact that genuinely the only forward motion in the story is in the last two minutes of part two of the narration.
I feel robbed, and like others, I feel as though Jennifer simply had a publication deadline that she needed to meet – part one could have recapped and been a legitimate retelling- but seriously the entire novel until the final two minutes⁉️
Come on.
And how long do we need to wait now for the next part of the story?
You can be the best wordsmith in the world with a very excellent narrator, but in the end, if you piss off your audience…
