Story
Multiple studies have now confirmed a dramatic link between the health of our microbiome—the trillions of bacteria that live in our digestive tract—and our likelihood of getting devastating viral illnesses like COVID-19. Low-fiber diets, limited exposure to nature, and overzealous use of pharmaceuticals have messed up our microbiome, making many of us more susceptible to viruses than we naturally should be.

David R. Montgomery and Anne Bikle take us far beyond the well-worn adage to deliver a new truth: the roots of good health start on farms. What Your Food Ate marshals evidence from recent and forgotten science to illustrate how the health of the soil ripples through to that of crops, livestock, and ultimately us. Navigating discoveries and epiphanies about the world beneath our feet, they reveal why regenerative farming practices hold the key to healing sick soil and untapped potential for improving human health.

Lost me because of the narrator
Mind-numbingly boring narration of an excellent book. I gave up listening and will borrow the book from my library.

One of the best books on current concepts of disease and inflammation ever
The history of research in the field of immunology is so interesting and is very well presented here in juxtaposition to the wide range of inflammatory diseases intertwined with examples from the author’s experience. The author presents so much important information about diet and what we can do to optimize not only our own microbiomes but also the wider implications of food choices for our earth and climate change. The narrator was great and, as so often happens, my ear became more attuned to her voice as the chapters progressed. A very clear and consistent narration that I would rate highly .
