Story
In the shadow of the Pentland Hills, a man has been callously struck down in front of his home. Tyre marks suggest it was no accidental hit-and-run. Somebody wanted him dead and as the man fights for every breath, they might still get their wish. Grappling with the demons he thought he could leave behind after months away on enforced leave, D.S. Malkie McCulloch resists pressure from his superiors to pass the case on to the road policing unit, convinced that whoever was behind the wheel will be waiting for the chance to finish the job.

Publisher's Summary
When the luxury cruiser, hastily renamed Great Britain, berths in Kinloch harbour, the pressure is on DCI Jim Daley. The UK Government are taking a high-powered group of businessmen and women on a tour of the British isles, golfing and seeing the sights, as part of a push for global trade. But when one of the crew goes missing, and an elderly local ornithologist disappears, will the pressure become too great?
The arrival of a face from the past sends Daley’s world into a tailspin. And the lives of the passengers and crew of SS Great Britain, as well as the country’s economic future are in jeopardy. DS Brian Scott comes to the fore, and replete with a temporary promotion, is once more - most reluctantly, in his case - back at sea.
Daley faces a life and death struggle, but is this his last throw of the dice?

Thank Goodness for another DCI Daley book!
Another great suspense story with so many little threads to remember and unravel, with all the old players involved. I could hardly put it down. I listened all hours of the day and night.
I just hope there's another one soon - don't leave me hanging like this!!!

Another absolutely enjoyable story.
He's done it again, another cracker of a tale from Mr Meyrick. Edge of seat, knuckle biting and very wary of who is going to be the next victim. Not any of our faves.....or are they. Fabulous book. Chop chop, next please

Oh I do enjoy those Denzil stories. It’s has a lot to do with David Monteith narrating them. This one was totally engrossing. And I loved it enormously ......except for the ending.

Perhaps the best in the series
I love the DCI Daley series, the characters are are engaging and complex, the plots intriguing with a few unexpected twists David Montheath’s narration is wonderful. I have enjoyed each of the books but found this plot particularly interesting, and laughed out loud even more. I didn’t want it to end and was sad when it did
