Once, I held a naive belief in the inherent triumph of good over evil, convinced that humanity, under the guardianship of the divine, would inevitably ascend through our collective efforts. Yet, as I traversed the globe, immersing myself in diverse cultures and histories, I bore witness to a reality far more complex than my idealistic notions. It is for the preservation of our collective future, that I pen these words—to articulate my observations, present my arguments, and propose solutions that may shield us from the disillusionment bred by both human frailty and the indifference of fate.

The Boer War was the defining conflict of South African history and one of the most important conflicts in the history of the British Empire. Naturally, complicated geopolitics underscored it, going back centuries.
