For Don and Samantha Anderson and crew, the first winter in Michigan after the EMPs is full of trouble and tough decisions, making their already difficult reality even more challenging to endure. Don finds himself still struggling with nightmares of what he and his group did to defend themselves in the past. Their search radius for food and supplies continues to grow, eventually leading them to the abandoned town of Frankenmuth, Michigan. What they find there, is not at all what they expected!

Don and Samantha’s community has survived the long harsh Michigan winter and made it to the April showers bring May flowers stage. They’re ready to get their gardens in and build their food stores up, so the next winter won’t be so hard on them.

Leros has been a catastrophe. The Germans invaded, overran and captured the island leaving Castelrozzo (ABC) as the last one still in Allied hands. The Luftwaffe now has air superiority over the entire Aegean Theatre of Operations. Neither the U.S. nor Royal Navy will risk capital ships in the AO due to the threat posed by enemy air. The Long Range Desert Group has been reduced to approximately fifty patrolmen.

Peter Bannerman, veterinarian and amateur detective, deserves a summer vacation. Peter and his family head to a remote fishing lodge in northern Manitoba for a canoeing trip with his champion sniffer dog, Pippin. But a series of incidents color their plans. The lodge’s sled team of huskies has been poisoned and, at the same time, a floatplane crashes into the lake, killing the pilot and both passengers. While Peter works to save the huskies, it is discovered that the plane crash wasn’t an accident. It was murder.

The 575th Ranger Task Force, Raiding Forces are conducting a fighting withdrawal back to the Salerno Beachhead following their drop on Benevento, Italy. The jump was widely scattered with one plane load missing the drop zone by in excess of 100 miles. While the 575th RTF has been away conducting a hit and run guerrilla campaign, blocking roads by downing trees, cutting rail lines and blowing bridges, an element of Sea Raiders from the Brandenburger Regiment have raided Castelrozzo.

For Don and Samantha Anderson and crew, the second half of winter in Michigan is a time of healing and growth in their new community. With that comes personality conflicts and change. The Andersons’ group isn’t the only thing growing in size and strength in the area. The dog pack is, too, and all of these humans are right in the middle of their claimed territory. As their search for food begins to overlap, the frequency of encounters increases, and something has to give.

With a mix of excitement and caution, Don’s group expands their scavenging runs to the town of Burt, where they meet another group. This encounter could lead to a new trading partner or, even better, a potential alliance. Can they trust them? Should they? Keith’s group, mirroring the same mix of trust and caution towards Don’s group, is about to be blindsided. Unbeknownst to them, a surprise awaits. In this new post-apocalyptic world, nothing is as it seems, and the tension mounts.
