Die beiden Kommissare Schatz und Herzl haben sich in ihrer neuen Heimat, der ostbayerischen Provinz, recht gut eingelebt – nicht zuletzt wegen der beiden Herzblätter Julia und Carlotta. Da bricht eine rätselhafte Mordserie über die ländliche Idylle herein. Ein putzsüchtiger Narzisst mordet sich scheinbar wahllos durch bayerische Gefilde. Das geht dann nicht nur Schatz und Herzl an die Substanz, auch Dienststellenleiter Rödel, an sich ein erklärter Gegner der beiden Münchner Kollegen, zieht diesmal an einem Strang mit ihnen.

Schatz und Herzl, die beiden Kriminaler aus München, sind wieder zurück in der Oberpfalz, um die Bösen zu jagen. Da fällt ihnen schon die erste Leiche vor die Füße: die junge Susanne Bergreiter ist von einem Felsen gefallen – oder gar gestoßen worden? Dann wird auch noch während der Ermittlungen ein menschliches Skelett ganz in der Nähe gefunden. Ein ziemlich komplizierter Fall. Da wären die beiden Herren aus München ohne den patenten Dorfpolizisten Häupl wieder richtig aufgeschmissen. Auch privat kann Herzl, sein Herzblatt, die Julia endlich wieder an seine Brust drücken.
