Presented here is Volume IV of our Feminist Literary Classics series, featuring three of the most important feminist works ever written: A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather.

"A Room of One's Own" began life as a pair of lectures delivered by Virginia Woolf in October 1928 at Newnham College and Girton College, women's colleges at the University of Cambridge and was published as a stand-alone book in 1929. In this brilliant examination of literature, history and gender discrimination, Woolf posits that the dearth of female writers in literature did not result from a lack of talent; it was the lack of opportunity.

"Wuthering Heights" is author Emily Brontë's masterpiece, a haunting and disturbing romance novel with dark themes, a brooding and often cruel protagonist and a tragic, powerful love story. An epic study of love, loss, revenge and obsession, "Wuthering Heights" is the tale of Heathcliff and Catherine; he, an orphan taken in by a kindly benefactor, she, a spirited country girl who loves Heathcliff, but aspires to a higher station.

In the story, we meet Mrs. Dashwood and her three daughters, who are betrayed by a family member and left in dire financial straits. One day, while out for a walk in the rain, the middle daughter, Marianne, twists her ankle and is rescued by the handsome Mr. Willoughby. Though cautioned by her older sister Elinor to be wary, Marianne - blinded by love - rushes into the budding romance headlong...with grim consequences.

"Emma" is the fourth book by celebrated British author Jane Austen and the final book to be published during her lifetime. The story concerns Emma Woodhouse, a precocious young lady who fancies herself a matchmaker and thus intrudes upon the love lives of her friends and relations to find them suitable mates. When she attempts to cement the romance between her cousin Harriet (a girl of modest means) and a wealthy suitor, Emma is admonished by her brother-in-law, Mr. Knightley, for her meddling and a series of romantic entanglements soon ensues.

"The Return of Sherlock Holmes" heralded the triumphant resurrection of the world's greatest consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, after his apparent (and untimely) demise in the story "The Final Problem." Under intense pressure from his fans to bring him back after having killed off Holmes at the Reichenbach Falls, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle finally relented and, in "The Adventure of the Empty House," explains how Holmes escaped the same, dismal fate as his nemesis, Professor Moriarty.

Presented here are the third, fourth and fifth books of the Sherlock Holmes canon: the novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and short story collections "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" and "The Return of Sherlock Holmes," all written by Holmes' legendary creator, the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Collected here are some of the most beloved and revered of Doyle's Holmes stories.
