Osho illuminates the Chinese Zen master Hyakujo’s concept of sudden enlightenment, showing that everyone is already a buddha. No master, he says, can give you anything; he can only take your false beliefs away.

More than 2,500 years ago, Gautama the Buddha walked the earth, teaching to all who would listen. Buddhist lore has it that shortly after he passed away, his disciples met to recall all that they were able of the truths that Buddha had spoken. These sayings were complied into The Dhammapada, an anthology of 423 verses containing the essence of his principles. Osho is one of the most provocative mystics of our time, who inspires millions of people worldwide in their individual search for meditation and transformation.

Looking around, following the world news, what do you see? Austerity, unemployment, asylum seekers, refugee camps, police brutality.... Everywhere there is misery and suffering. Why? Osho offers his insight and his solution.

Wisdom, says Buddha, arises from within, and is the only true knowledge. In The Dhammapada Osho speaks on wisdom, which he calls knowing, and on the difference between knowing and knowledge. Knowing, he says, is spontaneous response: it comes from inner silence, it is our own truth, an existential experience. Knowledge is dependent on the past, it is mechanical, it is second-hand, it comes from another, and hides the truth from ourselves. Knowing gives us inner direction; knowledge only outer direction. And the key to the intuitive faculty of knowing is meditation.

In Zen, Zest, Zip, Zap and Zing, Osho responds to questions on love, freedom, morality, women’s role in society, nostalgia, a child’s right to privacy, the purpose of life, and more. Again and again he nudges the listener back to the essential: Zen – awareness, being here and now. While responding to the concerns of the questioners, Osho also illustrates how nonessential their preoccupations are.

The Dhammapada is a collection of sayings of the Gautama the Buddha in verse form and one of the best-known Buddhist scriptures. This is volume nine of a 12-volume series of Osho Talks, bringing Buddha's Dhammapada into the 21st century and opening them for a new understanding for contemporary people.

“To be a buddha is not a difficult job. It is not some achievement for which you need a Nobel Prize”. Commenting on anecdotes and haikus by the Zen masters, Osho explains that being a buddha is the easiest thing in the world - it has already happened without you knowing. The empty heart, a place beyond thoughts and feelings, is within everyone. Meditation, and becoming truly thoughtless, is the key. Osho presents Zen as potent, alive, and relevant to the modern world.

Osho uses Sufi anecdotes as a jumping board into the various aspects of this talk.

In this provocative talk, Osho starts with our assumption that we are interested, maybe even passionately interested, in knowing the truth - and he tears it to shreds. He goes back in history with razor sharp clarity to illustrate our long-time avoidance of the truth, and our need to hide out in illusion.

Through the verses of the New Testament Gospels, Osho brings the teachings of Jesus to life, calling him a poet. "Jesus became a great milestone in the history of consciousness. It is not just coincidental that Jesus' birth has become the most important date in history. These discourses contain what Osho describes as the most significant statements ever made, which point to the whole secret of the mystic approach toward life. And the sutra that begins this series of discourses, he says, contains the very essence of the entire Upanishadic vision - that the universe is an indivisible totality, an organic whole. Osho illuminates these ancient texts with such clarity that their significance seems stunningly obvious.

The Sutra of 42 Chapters is a scripture complied in the first century CE. Each saying comes from Buddha, but the whole work was a new anthology created especially for introducing Buddhism in a new country. That’s why it makes such a good, basic introduction to the world view of Gautam Buddha.

Responses to a question on how to explore the higher states of consciousness. According to Osho there are not many ways to explore higher levels of consciousness, there is but one: the way of awareness. "Man is almost unconscious. I say “almost” - there are moments, situations where he becomes conscious, but they are momentary."

In this talk Osho is asked whether or not he is ever bored with life. In reply he says it is one of the most significant questions to be asked. He says only man can be bored; no other animal has the capacity. Boredom is a by-product of intelligence, and nothing is wrong with boredom. No animal is bored because no animal is bothered about meaning, no animal is concerned about creativity. Only idiots are not bored – or the enlightened ones, but they are few and far between. What is the secret behind boredom?

Dharm, Sannyaas, Dhyaan ke rahsyon ka udghatan aur andh-shraddha par kutharaghaat Osho ki is pravachanmala ke pramukh swar hain. Bhaarat ki samaajik evam dhaarmik moodhtaon ne kis prakaar is desh ko dhyaan ki khumaari, prem ki khumaari se vanchit rakha hai yah Osho ne apni vaani dwara spasht kiya hai.

Gautama the Buddha raised the most important question. The most important question of all questions is: What is true happiness? "People are living just to impress. They must be really very poor inside, because only people suffering from an inferiority complex want to impress others. A really superior person never compares himself with anybody else. He knows he is incomparable; not only that, he knows others are also as incomparable as he is. He is neither superior nor inferior."

Osho sees Zen not as a historical spiritual tradition but as the future spirituality of a humanity that has matured to the point that people no longer need religions controlled by priesthoods and based on fearful superstitions that cripple people's innate intelligence and divide them from one another.
