Han vidarebefordrar ordern, men när avrättningarna är genomförda drabbas han av svåra samvetskval ... "Samvetskval" är en fredsnovell från 1884 skriven av August Strindberg som följer huvudpersonen von Bleichrodens inre kamp mot sig själv.

The five short stories in Ara’s Prelude recount the early lives of folks from the novel Ara’s Song. In one tale, Princess Ara, in her seal-pup form, meets the boy Seamus when she’s caught in a fishing net. In another, Seamus’s dreams of becoming a fisherman are threatened by his parents’ fear of seal folk. At the same time, Ara’s father, the king of the Selkies, is convincing his adventuresome daughter that humans are the dangerous ones - humans like that boy Seamus she finds so fascinating.
