Hector Hugh Munro (18 December 1870 – 14 November 1916), better known by the pen name Saki and also frequently as H. H. Munro, was a British writer whose witty, mischievous and sometimes macabre stories satirize Edwardian society and culture. He is considered a master of the short story, and often compared to O. Henry and Dorothy Parker. Influenced by Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling, he himself influenced A. A. Milne, Noël Coward and P. G. Wodehouse.

After being dumped by her boyfriend, Momoko finds herself very drunk at a small cafe. Momoko shares the story of her ex-boyfriend with the Manager of the café and the other customers who happened to be there. As she tells her story, she goes into the kitchen of the café, and cooks her ex-boyfriend’s favorite dish, butter chicken curry. Together, they eat the dish and Momoko begins to feel better. Much better. The owner of the café loves the curry and Momoko’s story and they decide to hold a weekly Ex-Boyfriend’s Favorite Recipe Funeral Committee meeting at the café.
