AD 1205 - It's years after The Dark Lord Jax de Velt tore through the Welsh marches and captured several castles. Still he holds lands that do not belong to him. AD 1301. Following the great quest north with Cortez de Bretagne ( The Questing), de Bretagne's knight, Sir Drake de Winter, returns home to the great de Winter empire in Norfolk, but it is not the safe and wonderful haven he remembers. Family unrest causes him to flee to London and into the service of the elderly King Edward I, a personal friend of Drake's father. In Edward's service, Drake finds himself in Scotland as a major player in the Siege of Caerlaverock Castle.

AD 1266 - Chadwick "Chad" de Lohr, son of Daniel de Lohr is a hero at the Battle of Evesham. Saving the hostage Henry III from Simon de Montfort, he is riding high on a wave of royal praise at the conclusion of the battle. But that favor with the king is short-lived. Henry, once again in power after the death of de Montfort, is determined to rid his country of the de Montfort-supporting rebels once and for all.

1234 A.D. - For as long as she can remember, the Lady Adalind de Aston has loved Sir Maddoc du Bois. Being sent away to foster did nothing to cure her of her unending love for Maddoc, a sentiment he did not return. Years later, Adalind returns from fostering as a cultured and beautiful woman. So beautiful, in fact, that tales of her beauty are legendary and a string of hopeful suitors follow her home. 1192 AD - David de Lohr, the younger brother of the great Christopher de Lohr (Rise of the Defender), is a man who has lived his entire life in his prestigious older brother's shadow. While his brother was nicknamed "The Lion's Claw" as the right hand of Richard the Lionheart, David was nicknamed "The Lion Cub" because of his youth.

Gabriel “Gart” Forbes is the most powerful knight in the arsenal of David de Lohr, Baron Thornden, brother to the mighty Earl of Hereford. When Julian de Moyon, Baron Buckland, summons Thornden for critical support, Gart travels to Dunster Castle to meet with Buckland. Upon arrival, he is set upon by three young boys who try to rob him, all sons of Baron Buckland. Gart discovers that their mother, the Lady Emberley de Moyon, is the sister of his long-dead best friend.

The year is 1180 A.D. and times are very dark. England is lawless for the most part and the people live in fear. Rising to power during this time is the vicious and brutal knight Ajax de Velt. His mission is to conquer a large stretch of the Scots and Welsh border, commandeering wealth and property along the way. He wants to be the most feared and powerful warlord in all of England, Wales, and Scotland, and he is well on his way.

1192 A.D. - Sir Roane Garr is a member of St. John the Baptist Hospitaller sect and while visiting the supposed Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, he is hit by a freak bolt of lightning and suddenly finds himself with miraculous healing powers. The Hospitallers believe he is a heretic and must be destroyed, so he flees back to England and into seclusion as a bounty is put on his head.

Kent de Poyer is part of the powerful Norman de Poyer family from Netherworld Castle. Therefore, it's little wonder when Henry sends Kent to the Welsh marches because of some trouble between an English family and a local Welsh warlord that threatens to ignite the entire border into a blaze of battle. Madelaina ferch Bryn is the daughter of the apothecary from the village of Penderyn. When the English sack the castle, it's a valley of apprehension.
