Er veränderte das christlich geprägte Abendland wie kaum ein Zweiter: Martin Luther. Seine Theologie, seine Thesen und Abhandlungen haben Kirchen- und Kulturgeschichte geschrieben. Doch nicht nur der konfessionelle Reformator tritt in seinen Schriften ans Licht, auch der Mensch Luther - fröhlich, ernsthaft, traurig, leidenschaftlich und kritisch. Etwa, wenn er an seine Familie schreibt, seine berühmten Tischreden hält oder Fabeln verschriftlicht.

Diese Auslegung des Lobgesangs der Maria schickte Martin Luther 1521 dem seinerzeit achtzehnjährigen Fürsten Johann Friedrich von Sachsen, seinem nachmaligen Landesherrn. Der Text legt unter anderem Zeugnis ab von Martin Luthers Sicht auf Maria, die Christen beider Konfessionen möglicherweise überraschen könnte. Jedenfalls werden ihnen Luthers Feststellungen jede Menge Stoff zum Nachdenken geben.

Die Bezeichnung "Hauspredigten" erklärt sich daraus, dass Luther diese Predigten 1530-1534 in seinem Hause seinem Gesinde gehalten hat, wenn er "Schwachheit halben" nicht in der Kirche predigen konnte. Eine andere Lesart des Begriffs ist: Diese Predigten hätten "in den Häusern" gelesen und gehört werden sollen. Vermutlich werden Luthers Hauspredigten nur wenigen heutigen Hörern zur reinen Erbauung dienen, obwohl sie viel Nachdenkenswertes enthalten.

Dass Martin Luther vor fast 500 Jahren für die Homo-Ehe eingetreten wäre oder ein Plädoyer für die heute so verbreitete sequenzielle Monogamie gehalten hätte, wird niemand erwarten. Aber ist damit alles, was er über das eheliche Leben gedacht und geschrieben hat, überholt und zu vernachlässigen? Man höre und urteile selbst.
