E' per noi un grande piacere presentare agli studiosi ed ai ricercatori delle Dottrine Segrete questo lavoro basato sugli insegnamenti ermetici, antichi quanto il mondo. E' stato scritto così poco su quest'argomento, malgrado gli innumerevoli riferimenti a detti insegnamenti nelle molte opere sull'occultismo, che non pochi dei più seri investigatori delle Arcane Verità faranno senza dubbio buona accoglienza al presente volume.

Il sottotitolo del Kybalion recita: uno studio della filosofia ermetica dell'antico Egitto e della Grecia. Sotto il nome di "I Tre Iniziati", attribuitosi dagli autori, si nasconde William Walker Atkinson, alias Yogi Ramacharaka, forse insieme ad altri autori che non sono stati accertati; si è fatto fra gli altri il nome di Mabel Collins, autrice di Luce sul Sentiero. Il libro fu pubblicato nel 1908. Dice l'introduzione: "Lo scopo di quest'opera non è l'enunciazione di qualche speciale filosofia o dottrina, ma piuttosto quello di dare agli studenti un'affermazione della Verità."
