Having been maneuvered into attacking an innocent planet populated by natives with technology far outpacing that of Earth, humanity faces its greatest challenge - fighting off two superior races out to exterminate the human race. It was bad enough when it was just mankind against the Seken. Now the Azloreans have joined the fray.

After Zac Murphy and Angus Price are fired from their jobs as leaders of the REV fleet that's been expanding the human stellar empire, a new danger appears in the Outer Reaches: A super-race capable of smashing humanity like a bug. As the Klin build and deploy thousands of trans-dimensional starships, they refuse to accept the danger the space engines represent. Kracion has spent years repairing the damage to the space/time continuum caused by these drives, and now the Klin are literally tearing the fabric of space apart even worse than before.

The alien with an attitude is back! But for how long? After the tragic events at the end of Secondary Protocol, the truth is finally revealed to Adam and his friends. Now, he's living on borrowed time as his resurrected body is rapidly deteriorating. To save Adam, the mutants—Panur and Lila—must take him to the Sol-Kor universe. But in doing so, they awaken the wrath of Queen J'nae, who will use all her resources to destroy Panur—along with any hope of Adam surviving. And to add insult to injury, the New Klin from Kracion's universe have invaded the Milky Way.

In a continuation of the events begun in Raiders of the Shadow, Adam Cain and Copernicus Smith face off against an old enemy . . . in fact, several old enemies. The Klin have returned, as have the Second Generation Humans from the early days of The Human Chronicles. Their old foe is back at it again, but this time teamed up with the deadly weapons manufacturer Xan-fi, on another galaxy-conquering quest. But this time, they won't be denied.

The story of the Klin comes full circle. After failing to conquer the Expansion—again—the aliens set their sights once again on Earth and the human race. This time, they're bringing their deadly subcutaneous microchips to get the race to do their bidding. But when things go horribly wrong, the Klin have to look at alternatives. When Adam Cain and Copernicus Smith inadvertently discover the Klin's sinister plot on Earth, they're shocked to find that the truth is hard to believe. And now our reluctant heroes must find the Klin surrogates and prevent the takeover.

After the defeat of the evil Antaere in the first REV series, Zac and his super warriors carry on, as the hammer used against a myriad of obstinate races. The Union of Affiliated Systems (Earth's new stellar empire) is determined to expand far beyond the Grid, using the REVs as the means of convincing reluctant species to join. After all, its for their own good. Membership in the UAS will benefit all. So what if a little blood has to be spilled in the meantime? Zac didn't want command of the REV force in the first place, and now he's put in an impossible situation.
