Fell is the Hand of Darkness, a relic of great evil. Nach dem Abbild des Imperators selbst erschaffen, hielten sich die Primarchen lange für die Prinzen des Universums und Herren ihres eigenen Schicksals - sie führten die Legionen der Space Marines in ihrer glorreichen Eroberung der Galaxis und kein Feind des Imperiums konnte ihnen Einhalt gebieten. Doch selbst in dieser legendären Bruderschaft war die Saat des Zweifels gesät worden, und das schon lange bevor der verräterische Kriegsherr Horus seinen großen Verrat ankündigte.

Während die Horus-Häresie das Imperium spaltet, entfliehen Corax und einige wenige überlebende Space Marines der Raven Guard dem Massaker auf Istvaan V. Die angeschlagenen Space Marines machen sich daran, ihre Verletzungen zu versorgen und ihre Zahl wieder aufzufrischen, um den Kampf gegen den verräterischen Kriegsherrn fortsetzen zu können. Bestürzt angesichts der vernichtenden Schäden, die seine Legion hinnehmen musste, kehrt Corax nach Terra zurück, um die Hilfe seines Vaters zu erbitten: des Imperators der Menschheit.
