Lord Rettendon employs James the gardener to maintain the grounds of his large manor House. An electrical storm forces them to take shelter inside the garage and as doing so, a lightning strike knocks the two of them unconscious and an out of body experiences occur for both. Upon revival, the spirits become confused as they descend from the zenith above and the soul of Lord Rettendon enters into the body of James the gardener and vice versa.

The Renfeld's are a happy couple residing in a gated community of suburban Surrey. Mr Renfeld being a successful journalist with The Times newspaper in central London. Their life was one of routine with change unwelcome, that is until an extremely cold winter caused Mr Renfeld to speak in German only. This meant, he was no longer able to continue work as a journalist during the winter months and a change in lifestyle beckoned for the Renfelds.

The scene is a traditional English garden located in the splendour of the English countryside. The plants and wildlife have an ability to communicate with each other which the humans who reside in the house are totally unaware of.
