Audio Journeys is at the annual Oostende sailing ship festival on the old freight docks of this once very busy seaport.

In the seaport town of Oostende on the last weekend in May, one of the world's largest sailing-ship festivals is held. There are many ships to explore and much activity when we arrive on the docks of Oostende; announcers, marching bands, and battle-ship reenactments fill our senses. The first person we meet is a musketeer and one of the Festival's organizers.

We arrive in San Jose, from a small boat across Lake Petén Itzá. There are few roads into the region. This quiet lakeside hill town has a Mayan and Spanish Language School.

Audio Journeys visits the Via Delorosa in Jerusalem. Our guide, historian Ruth Holzman, describes Jerusalem, looking east down the Via Dolorosa, in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. The Via Dolorosa, according to tradition, is the route Jesus followed to his crucifixion.

Audio Journeys explores a small patch of some of the Republic of El Salvador's last remaining rainforests. Fifty spider monkeys live in the canopy of 300-year-old trees. The spider monkeys are protected as long as they stay in this very small area, known as the Chaguantique Nature Reserve.

This important private reserve is maintained by El Salvador's ministry of Natural Resources.

Dame Ivy Compton-Burnett (1884-1969) was an English novelist who was a bestseller in the mid-20th century. She published eighteen highly acclaimed works of fiction in her lifetime, inspired by her own tragic experiences of family life.
