The book goes through the various causes, in couplehood or the woman's own life, of the problem, such as stress, being pressed for time, pregnancy and childbirth, her role as a mother, her relationship to her own body, fear and pain, a lack of attention and intimacy, previous physical or mental abuse, the partners' different needs.

I sin selvbiografi fortæller Bettina Tammaro, der er kendt som deltager i Robinson Ekspeditionen, om sit liv som eventyrer. Fra lille Danmark til Afrika, Thailand og USA har hun lavet alt fra at arbejde på børnehjem til at komme helt tæt på vilde dyr. Desuden fortæller hun om livet som alenemor til tre børn, som hun har taget med på sine rejser og om sine to kræftforløb, hvoraf hun besluttede kun at modtage alternativ behandling under sidste forløb. Bettina Mattila Funch Tammaro (f. 1966) er måske mest kendt fra Robinson Ekspeditionen, men lever også personligt et liv som eventyrer.

Reuters psykologiske spændingsroman fortæller historien om den ældre, meget velhavende koncertpianist David og hans liv sammen med den langt yngre hustru Anne. Ægteskabet har knirket i længere tid, og Anne indleder et forhold til en ung mand på hendes egen alder. Gentagne gange taler de to om, hvor let alting ville være, hvis David ikke var mere; de har sågar talt om at 'hjælpe ham lidt på vej'. Anne får dog kolde fødder, men en dag, da hun kommer hjem, er David netop blevet fundet livløs for foden af den stejle trappe ned til stranden fra deres nordsjællandske sommerhus.
