Martin Luther wrote his small and large catechisms as a teaching tool of Christian doctrine and faith for individuals and families. Today, more than 500 years after Luther first came into prominence by penning the “95 Theses”, his catechisms are still powerful tools for the Christian life. Listeners will find in this audio a brief but clear summary of God's word on the essentials of the Christian faith, together with practical applications to the Christian life.

Martin Luther wrote his catechisms to provide religious instruction for children, as well new converts or others lacking a deep knowledge of the scripture. In the catechism, Luther tried to teach the basic doctrines that every Christian should know. Luther taught that it was the duty of every father to teach these basic doctrines to not only his children, but his servants on a weekly basis. Furthermore, fathers were admonished to question the children and hired help on these basic tenets of faith each week, to ensure that they knew them fully.

Die kennt Licht, Finsternis und Logos - drei Begriffe, die Johannes als Grundpfeiler seines Evangeliums dienen.

Interpret Jürgen Fliege zu seinem Hörbuch: Markus schreibt im Jahre 65 als Erster der vier Evangelisten sein Evangelium aus vielen kleinen einzelnen Schriftstücken und mündlichen Überlieferungen nieder. Er ist einer der Gebrüder Grimm der damaligen Zeit, der sammeln geht, eine Geschichte nach der anderen schreibt und sie konzeptionell damit verbindet, dass zu Lebzeiten nicht rauskommen durfte wer Jesus ist. Bei Markus sollte den Leuten erst im Nachhinein bewusst werden, wer da eigentlich über die Welt gegangen ist.

The Table Talk of Doctor Martin Luther is a collection of Luther’s commentaries on Biblical books such as Galatians and Deuteronomy. Much of the collection is based on notes taken during Luther's talks with his students and colleagues. Luther's close associates Antony Lauterbach and John Aurifaber took note of these informal speeches in which he comments on subjects such as baptism, the holy spirit and discipleship. His wide-ranging subjects also include life, the church and Christianity in general, and scientific pursuits such as astronomy in relation to God.

Martin Luther's Bondage of the Will (1525) is a response to Desiderius Erasmus's "Diatribe on Free Will.’ The work is considered as one of the great masterpieces of the Reformation. Luther writes powerfully about man's depravity and God's sovereignty in his direct style, which combines spirituality and humor. For Luther, the crucial issue was the ability of free will, and the extent to which it is subject to God's sovereignty.

In the tumultuous days of the Reformation, the centerpiece of Luther’s ministry was his bold biblical preaching. Martin Luther, the reformer, theologian, author and polemicist is well known as hymn-writer, musician, teacher, and pastor to both clergy and laity. However, Luther saw himself as a preacher first. On religious holidays, he preached twice a day. The sermon "Day of St. John the Evangelist" is based on John 21:19-24, about Christ’s imminent death. At that time, Jesus reprimanded Peter for doing everything but that which he was supposed to do.

Martin Luther's On Christian Liberty is considered to be Luther's seminal work on the doctrine of salvation by grace through faith alone, and not through works. This short manifesto expounds on the nature of the freedom of a Christian, providing some of the principles that would become the foundation of the Protestant Reformation.

Jürgen Fliege. Matthäus ist Jude und sieht das Jüdische in Jesus. Er will belegen, dass Jesus der Messias ist, auf den das Volk seit 3 Jahrtausenden wartet. Matthäus ist ein harter Evangelist. Bei ihm muss alles stimmen, er begründet seinen Jesus aus dem alten Testament heraus. Bei Matthäus ist Jesus für das Volk Israels da und nicht für alle Welt.

Die Sonderveröffentlichung "Die Ostergeschichte" knüpft konzeptionell an den Aufbau des Hörbuchs "Die Weihnachtsgeschichte" an. Neben der Lesung der Ostertexte interpretiert Jürgen Fliege liebevoll wie hinterfragend die Ostergeschichte anhand seiner eigenen Erfahrungen, mit denen er dem Zuhörer Einblicke "zwischen die Zeilen" der Bibel eröffnet.
