In the winter of AD 44, Rome's plan to install a friendly king in the most hostile area of Britannia is facing a new threat. There are rumours of a traitor close to the new king, and a new enemy is gathering strength beyond the marshes. As the king continues with his plans to Romanise his subjects, Horatius Figulus, a junior officer in the Second Legion, is charged with training up the new royal bodyguard. But when a trap is sprung on the Roman army, a secretive Druid sect seizes power and takes the king hostage. Now Figulus must infiltrate the enemy ranks, release the king and track down the elusive leader of the Druids - before the whole of Britannia descends into bloody chaos....

Britannia is a nightmare campaign setting for the brave soldiers of the Second Legion. Horatius Figulus, a junior officer, has been rewarded for bravery and skill against the island's rebel forces with a mission that could bring him prestige and position. He and his most trusted comrades are to help install a new king in a hostile area. Succeed, and they'll establish an imperative Roman stronghold. Fail, and the whole invasion will be jeopardised.

In the first century AD, the Roman Empire faces a new threat from its long-standing enemy Parthia. Parthia is vying with Rome for control of Palmyra an officially neutral kingdom. Palmyra's royal household is on the brink of open revolt, and so a task force under the command of experienced soldiers Macro and Cato is dispatched to defend its king and guard its borders.

Despite defeat in battle, Britannia's natives continue to resist their Roman conquerors. All attempts to impose Roman rule have failed. A new king has been installed among the Durotriges to bring them into line, and Optio Horatius Figulus of the Second Legion is charged with protecting him. It's a thankless task, and, worse still, the Druids are rumoured to be plotting to assassinate the king. The king begins a devastating campaign of reprisals against his political rivals. Whole families are murdered, weapons are confiscated and the old gods are denounced.

While centurions Macro and Cato are returning to Rome from a harrowing campaign against the Parthians, their transport ship is almost capsized by a tidal wave. They barely make it to the port of Matala in Crete, where they are stunned to find a devastated town. An earthquake has struck the island, destroying its cities and killing thousands.

Britannia, AD 45. Rome's plan to establish a new friendly king over a hostile native tribe is in grave danger. A sinister new Druid sect, led by a charismatic priest, is threatening to destabilise the province and has taken several Roman soldiers prisoner. Now Optio Horatius Figulus faces his most dangerous mission yet. He must venture deep behind enemy lines in search of his captured comrades and the Druids' secret fortress.

Dass die heimlichen Herrscher der Stadt vor nichts zurückschrecken, erfährt Macro bei einem nächtlichen Überfall schmerzhaft am eigenen Leib.

1804. Napoleon Bonaparte, Kaiser der Franzosen, trachtet danach, Europa zu unterwerfen. Nach der Niederlage in der Schlacht von Trafalgar erringt er bei Austerlitz einen glorreichen Sieg gegen die Russen und Österreicher. Er zwingt den spanischen König zur Abdankung und verhilft seinem Bruder auf den Thron. Doch ein erbitterter Feind steht ihm weiterhin im Weg. Arthur Wellesley führt die Britischen Truppen auf dem Kontinent an. Er befreit Portugal aus der französischen Herrschaft und führt das Heer in Spanien von Sieg zu Sieg.

Im Chaos, das die Französische Revolution hinterlässt, wird Napoleon des Verrats angeklagt. Um seine Reputation zu retten, begibt der große Feldherr sich auf Kriegszüge nach Italien und Ägypten. Während Napoleon sich in zahlreichen blutigen Schlachten verliert, schickt England sich an, unter der Führung Wellingtons das mächtige Frankreich zu unterwerfen. Die beiden großen Schlachtenlenker Napoleon und Wellington stehen sich als erbitterte Feinde gegenüber in einem Kampf, der die Grundfesten der Weltgeschichte erschüttert.

Korsika 1769: Unter dramatischen Umständen erblickt ein Junge das Licht der Welt, der schon bald das Schicksal Europas erschüttern wird: Napoleon Bonaparte. Als junger Offizier führt er einen blutigen Vorstoß gegen die britischen Armeen, die die Revolution niederschlagen wollen. Im Kampf der beiden Imperien treten Napoleon und Wellesley zum ersten Mal gegeneinander an.

Römisches Reich, 25 n.Chr.: Seine erste Fahrt zur See mündet für den jungen Telemachos in einen Kampf um Leben und Tod. Das Handelsschiff, auf dem er angeheuert hat, wird gekapert. Um seine Haut zu retten, muss er sich wohl oder übel den Männern des grausamen Kapitäns Bulla anschließen. In der brutalen Welt der Seeräuber verdient sich Telemachos durch Zähigkeit und Geschick den Respekt der Mannschaft. Als am Horizont die Segel der römischen Flotte in Sicht kommen, ist er längst selbst zum Piraten geworden. Die letzte Schlacht naht.
