Een mysterieuze predikant duikt op terwijl de stad gebukt gaat onder aanhoudende verdwijningen van jonge vrouwen. Het team van Anne Verelst krijgt de opdracht te onderzoeken of er een verband is tussen de verschillende zaken. In dit tweede deel in de Anne Verelst-serie stijgt de druk op Anne's team tot ondraaglijke hoogten, terwijl priesters op brutale wijze worden geveld door een ongrijpbare moordenaar. Langzaam ontvouwen zich duistere motieven, en Anne en haar team worden meegesleurd in een race tegen de klok, waar persoonlijke trauma's de spanning naar ongekende hoogten stuwen.
