The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels was published in London in 1848 in its original German, and two years later in English. It was commissioned by the Communist League and takes an analytical approach to the class struggle and the conflicts of capitalism. The Communist Manifesto summarizes the theories of Marx and Engels on the nature of society and politics, claiming that the history of all societies is a history of class struggles. It also touches on their ideas of how the capitalist society of the time would eventually be replaced by socialism.

Das "Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei" ist die wohl bekannteste Schrift von Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels. Wie wohl kaum ein anderes Dokument seiner Zeit lässt das "Manifest" die politisch aufgeladene Stimmung nachempfinden, die damals um 1848 herum während des zu Ende gehenden Vormärz in Europa kurz vor Ausbruch der Februarrevolution in Paris geherrscht hat. No final de fevereiro de 1848, foi publicado em Londres um pequeno panfleto que acabaria por se tornar o documento político mais importante de todos os tempos: o Manifesto Comunista, de Karl Marx e Friedrich Engels. Passado mais de um século e meio, a atualidade e o vigor deste texto continuam reconhecidos por intelectuais das mais diversas correntes de pensamento. A Boitempo Editorial utilizou, com alguns ajustes ortográficos, a tradução feita por Álvaro Pina a partir da edição alemã de 1890, prefaciada e anotada por Engels.

Das „Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei“ wurde von Karl Marx und Friedrich Engels im Auftrag des zweiten Kongresses des „Bundes der Kommunisten“ (November /Dezember 1847) ausgearbeitet und Ende Februar 1848 in London in deutscher Sprache als Programm des Bundes veröffentlicht. Es ist die Geburtsurkunde des wissenschaftlichen Kommunismus und das erste marxistische Parteiprogramm in der internationalen Arbeiterbewegung, es markiert den Beginn der internationalen kommunistischen Bewegung.
