Mr. Anderson viaja a Viborg en busca de algunos documentos para su investigación sobre la historia de la Iglesia de Dinamarca. Llega a una casa hotel, “The Golden Lion”, y se hospeda en el cuarto 12. Conoce al señor Kristensen, el dueño y gerente, y al señor Jensen, un abogado hospedado en la habitación 14, junto a la suya. El primer día, Anderson ve que no hay registro de una habitación 13, lo que es costumbre en Dinamarca. En la noche, Anderson siente que su habitación es más pequeña que antes, y por un momento cree que es por la poca luz.

El señor Wraxall viaja a Suecia con motivo del libro de viajes que está escribiendo. Una de sus paradas es la mansión de De la Gardie, toda una antigüedad. Ces histoires ne sont pas vraies, mais elles sont très anciennes ; certaines d'entre elles, je pense, sont belles, et toutes me semblent intéressantes. In M. R. James' klassischer Geistergeschichte „Kanonikus Alberics Sammlung" begibt sich ein englischer Gelehrter im Jahr 1883 in die abgelegene französische Stadt Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. Dort entdeckt er in der Kathedrale ein mysteriöses Manuskript, das einst dem Kanonikus Alberic gehörte. Das Buch enthält eine verstörende Illustration von König Salomo und einem Dämon, die eine düstere Präsenz heraufbeschwört. Diese meisterhaft erzählte Geschichte verbindet subtilen Horror mit einer beklemmenden Atmosphäre und zieht den Hörer in ihren Bann.

In M. R. James’ klassischer Erzählung "Verlorene Herzen“ wird der zwölfjährige Waisenjunge Stephen Elliott im Jahr 1811 von seinem entfernten Verwandten, dem zurückgezogen lebenden Gelehrten Mr. Abney, auf das abgelegene Anwesen Aswarby Hall eingeladen. Obwohl Mr. Abney als Experte für antike Religionen gilt und scheinbar wohlwollend erscheint, bemerkt Stephen bald unheimliche Erscheinungen und spürt, dass dunkle Geheimnisse das Anwesen durchdringen.

Tauche ein in die düstere Welt von M. R. James' klassischer Geistergeschichte 'Nummer 13'. Der britische Gelehrte Mr. Anderson reist in die dänische Stadt Viborg, um kirchengeschichtliche Forschungen zu betreiben. Er quartiert sich im Gasthof 'Zum Goldenen Löwen' ein und bezieht Zimmer Nummer 12. Bald bemerkt er seltsame Phänomene: Sein Zimmer scheint sich zu verändern, Möbel verschwinden, und aus dem angrenzenden Zimmer Nummer 13 dringen unheimliche Geräusche. Doch laut dem Wirt existiert kein Zimmer 13, da diese Nummer aus Aberglauben vermieden wird.
