The Last of the Mohicans: A Narrative of 1757 is a historical novel written by James Fenimore Cooper in 1826. - It is the second book of the Leatherstocking Tales pentalogy and the best known to contemporary audiences. The Pathfinder, published 14 years later in 1840, is its sequel. The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the French and Indian War (the Seven Years' War), when France and Great Britain battled for control of North America.

Der Wildtöter, englischer Originaltitel „The Deerslayer, or The First War Path“, ist ein 1841 veröffentlichter Abenteuerroman des amerikanischen Schriftstellers James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851). Der Wildtöter erschien als letzter Band des fünfteiligen Lederstrumpf-Zyklus. Im chronologischen Handlungsablauf der Serie bildet der Roman den ersten Band. Ebenfalls 1841 erschienen die ersten beiden deutschsprachigen Ausgaben des Romans, übersetzt von Gustav Pfizer und von Otto von Czarnowski. Als Buchtitel wählte Pfizer „Der Wildtöter“.

The Spy: a Tale of the Neutral Ground is the debut novel of James Fenimore Cooper, originally published in 1821. Cooper’s novels on life at the frontier established an entirely new genre in American literature, with The Last of the Mohicans considered as his masterpiece. The Spy is a fast-paced story of espionage set during the Revolutionary War, where the plot unfolds on neutral ground. The protagonist Harvey Birch, who appears to be a British loyalist, turns out to be George Washington's spy.

The Deerslayer gives listeners a glimpse into another time and another culture. Raised by Indians, the young white man Natty Bumppo takes pride in doing everything just as well as his peers. Natty is courageous and one of the best hunters in his group which earns him the name Deerslayer, but his true test will come in the form of warfare. The Deerslayer’s story is one of violence and the reality of warfare. After killing his first enemy, Natty is captured and tortured. He believes this is the worst of mankind but nothing can prepare him for the cruelty of the civilized man.
