I’m finally in control of my magic...and it’s much stronger than my Coven realizes. That’s not the only secret I’m keeping. I made a deal with a fairy: Her secrets for some of mine. Except I have no idea how to deliver on my oath and crossing the Fae is suicidal. Tennessee knows I’m up to something, but not even my soulmate can help me now, especially when being together is against the law. My magic runs ice cold. I am Judgement. I’ve gone from human to witch...to now Coven member. It’s amazing, awesome, and entirely overwhelming. I’m scared out of my mind right now. I shouldn’t be, I know that. I finally have real magic.

Just when I thought everything was going perfect...BOOM. Problems. And not just any problems—missing children problems. Teach magic, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. Yeah, well, they’re dirty rotten liars. When I told Tennessee we needed to have more schools than just Edenburg, I thought they’d assign appropriate people to the task. Ya know, like actual adults. Not a 16-year-old who still has to finish high school herself.

The rest of my Coven got to go home and relax. All I want to do after the last few months is sit on my couch, eat a whole box of cookies, and binge watch mindless feel-good movies. But apparently that is not on my to-do list.

The moment that knight dragged me through The Veil into the realm of Terrea everything changed. This world is nothing like home, it’s like I’ve stepped into a fantasy and traveled back in time. The person I was and the life I lived are gone. Lost. That Veil is not reopening. I’m stuck here…Forever.

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. Well, okay, literally speaking I want these two legs I’m standing on to be permanent. I want my scales to not pop up if it rains or if someone spills their drink on me. I want a house on land and a pet that has fur instead of two rows of razor sharp teeth. I’ve always felt like a crab out of her shell except when I’m on land. Except sirens can’t control their shifting.

I stopped believing in Santa Claus and happily-ever-afters when I lost my parents…so ten years ago I stopped trying. I threw myself into running my dad's hotel, The Diamond, where I make California dreams come true for the rich and famous. But now I realize there’s no one to come home to. I have no family, no friends, just my first ever boyfriend who works more than I do, and in three months barely even knows me.

My life has never been typical. Most people weren’t professional ballerinas. Most people didn’t have two happily married, four century old dads and an aunt who was actually your mother. Most people didn’t have pointed ears they had to hide or wings that would pop out of their back when they got too excited or angry. Most people didn’t have my problems.

Megelle Island is full of supernatural creatures. I came here a few years ago to be among my own kind, to not worry that I’d accidentally shift into a raccoon or turn invisible in front of some poor human. My clumsiness was going to expose us all to the public and get me into big trouble with the angels. The only problem is…I’m the only jinn here. I knew there weren’t many of us in existence but none was a whole lot less than expected.
