The novel is the story of a scientist who, through the study of optics finds a way to make things invisible. In a desire for recognition, fame, and the advantages of being invisible, he subjects himself to the process. But being unseen isn't as positive as he had hoped, and he soon finds himself regretting his condition, and his mind also becomes warped. He becomes mentally unhinged. Later, he embraces his invisibility and begins to spiral into a lust for power and control, and he reveals a plan he has hatched to unleash his personal "terror" on the world.

After being lost at sea for eleven months, Edward Prendick returned to London with no apparent recollection of the events surrounding his disappearance, prompting much speculation among the public and the psychiatric community as to what he might have experienced. In this religious tract published in 1917, H. G. Wells (who achieved fame as a pioneer in the science fiction genre of writing) details his beliefs in a "modern religion", which involves the eschewing of rites and dogmatic beliefs for a more universal theology. "The Red Room" is the horrifying story of a man trapped in a haunted room, but it is never made clear what it is that haunts the room.

HG Wells (1866-1946) was a prolific writer who mastered many sub-genres of the horror, science fiction, and monster tale. The Plattner Story and Others is a collection of 17 short stories, mostly published in periodicals during the 1980s. They include chestnuts like "The Argonauts of the Air", "In the Abyss", "The Apple", "Under the Knife", "The Sea Raiders", "The Cone", and "The Purple Pileus".

In his fiction, HG Wells explored various fantasy and science fiction sub-genres, from alien invasion narratives through time travel to dystopian tales. He was also an innovator and pioneer in matters of plot and style, as proven by the 33 short stories in The Country of the Blind and Other Stories. The tale of the title is about a mountaineer who discovers a secluded valley of blind people. When he tries to tell them about the sense of sight, they scoff and attribute it to an over-active imagination.

The novel tells the story of a journey to the moon undertaken by the two protagonists: a businessman narrator named Mr. Bedford and Mr. Cavor, an eccentric scientist. Ann Veronica is a New Woman novel by H. G. Wells published in 1909. Ann Veronica describes the rebellion of Ann Veronica Stanley, "a young lady of nearly two-and-twenty," against her middle-class father's stern patriarchal rule. The novel dramatizes the contemporary problem of the New Woman. It is set in Victorian era London and environs, except for an Alpine excursion. Ann Veronica offers vignettes of the Women's suffrage movement in Great Britain and features a chapter inspired by the 1908 attempt of suffragettes to storm Parliament.
