You may not know author Terry Southern's name, but you know his work. He wrote the screenplays for Dr. Strangelove, Barbarella, and Easy Rider, to name just a few. Susie is a big fan of his writing and was especially blown away when she read his 1970 book Blue Movie. It's a satirical novel about making a high-budget porn film featuring big-name stars. On today's show, Susie shares some of the audiobook edition, which she narrated! We'll hear Susie read from the beginning part of the book - a fun and sexy listen.

Today's show is an homage to Christian Mann, an erotic-film producer who was a mentor to Susie and the producer of Edward PenisHands, the best porn parody ever! Christian was a second-generation sex-film entrepreneur. His father, Kurt Mann, created the first wrestling mags, nudie mags, and stag-film productions. Like his father, Christian went on to innovate in the adult-entertainment business around multi-cultural and black sex movies. Today Susie speaks with legendary author Walter Mosley. His new book Debbie Doesn't Do It Anymore is about a woman who's had it with the porn industry. Mosley may be best known for his best-selling mystery series featuring Easy Rawlins. Susie asks Walter about how he researched this book and how he knows about porn. They also talk about exploitation, black identity, sex work, writing for Hollywood, "sexistential" novels, and how to stay young as you get old.

The debate about teaching sex ed in schools is eternal, but now there's new resistance from some parents in California. Susie reads from a Time article by Alexandra Sifferlin about a group of parents who started a campaign to remove a sex-ed textbook from their local middle school, arguing that it was inappropriate for their 13- and 14-year-olds. Susie has a lot to say about this, noting that she finds parents to be overly protective and unaware of what teenagers already know.

The state of Indiana has put a woman in prison for 20 years on charges that she killed her fetus, and reproductive-rights activists are outraged. Susie reviews the grisly details of how this happened. The woman is Asian American, single, and from a religious Hindu family that looks down on premarital sex - a perfect storm that led her to hide her pregnancy. But when the complications of a miscarriage caused her to seek medical help, she was quickly put in jail.

On today's show, Susie talks with UK novelist and journalist Stephanie Theobald. She's working on a new book about what she calls the last taboo: masturbation. Theobald has been described as "one of London's most celebrated literary lesbians", and her work has focused on sex, sexual identity, and art.
