The House of Pride, written by iconic American author Jack London (1876-1916), was first published in December 1910 issue of The Pacific Monthly. Author Jack London wrote The Call of the Wild and many other books. A pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commerical magazine fiction, he was one of the first Americans to make a lucrative career exclusively from writing.

White Fang, written by Jack London, tells the story of a half-wolf, half-dog nearly destroyed by the vicious cruelty of men. Near death, White Fang is rescued by Weeden Scott, who takes him home to California. White Fang learns to love his new master, and repays his kindness by saving Scott's father from a criminal who tries to kill him.

This is Jack London's companion piece to The Call of the Wild and is the story of the life of a dog who is mostly wolf. Set in the Canadian wilderness during the Gold Rush, the tale opens with his birth in the wild and subsequent deliverance to a Mackenzie Indian named Grey Beaver. We follow him growing from puppyhood among the Indians, through a career as a "fighting wolf" for a despicable owner, to his ulltimate rescue by a kindly Southerner.
