Writing this book has been a challenge and a pleasure all at the same time. As I read and edit it (for what seems the 150th time), I realize it is way more than a book on how to be a great shelter volunteer. It is really a book about dogs, dog training, and the ability to relate to your dog without malice, over the top control or even dominance. I am very proud of the ideas here, and really hope that all the people that read this book rush out to their local shelter, sign up as a volunteer, and make a difference.

The Bible is filled with stories of people who walked away from face-to-face encounters with Jesus thinking he was a total jerk. This book explores the premise that if Jesus were to return today as he did two thousand years ago, he (or she!) would meet the same fate. That is, his own people would fail to recognize who he is, they would argue with him incessantly, and seek to have him destroyed. Written by a seasoned atheist turned Christian, this book seeks to help non-Christians have a better understanding of Christianity, including why we don't always do as we should.

I want you to understand how hard puppies and dogs can be if you do it wrong. Dogs who lack confidence and socialization tend to be fearful, and that fear can lead to reactivity with people and/or other dogs, which can lead to aggression. This journey will be difficult, and it will take time and consistency on your part to be successful, but if you can set some simple routines right now and follow them daily, I can make this journey so much easier for you and your family.
